Description
Elysia de Lute Irma, more commonly known as Elsie, is a primary character from a specific anime and manga series. She is a New Devil from New Hell who works as an agent of the Runaway Spirit Squad, an organization tasked with capturing dangerous runaway spirits that have escaped into the human world. In order to carry out her duties alongside her partner, she adopts the human identity of Eri Katsuragi, posing as the younger half-sister of the protagonist and living with his family.

Despite claiming to be over three hundred years old, Elsie possesses the mentality and demeanor of a cheerful but somewhat immature teenager. Her defining personality traits are her overwhelming optimism and playful nature. She is earnest and hardworking, yet notoriously inept at most tasks, which leads her partner to frequently call her a bug demon or a no-good demon. She rarely dwells on such insults, maintaining a positive and persevering attitude regardless of her repeated failures. This resilience, whether stemming from strong will or a simple inability to grasp negativity, is a core aspect of her character. She has a childlike enthusiasm for fire trucks and is an avid fan of the popular idol Kanon Nakagawa, having memorized all of her songs and dance routines.

Elsie's primary motivation is to succeed in her mission to capture runaway spirits. Her role in the story is to act as the partner and assistant to the protagonist, helping him identify and target girls who are hosting spirits in their hearts. She provides practical support using her supernatural tools, though her lack of skill often makes her help more of a hindrance. Her partnership with the protagonist forms the central axis of her character. She is deeply loyal to him, cares greatly for his well-being and opinion, and works hard to earn his approval, even though she is often the target of his harsh criticism. Over time, she comes to see him as her older brother and expresses a desire to be with him forever. She is quickly accepted by the protagonist's mother, who treats her as a real daughter, and she easily befriends her classmates, particularly the members of the light music band 2-B Pencils, in which she plays left-handed bass. She also shares a significant friendship with a fellow demon, a former top student who often visits her and offers guidance.

Throughout the story, Elsie undergoes a notable development from an exceptionally clumsy and clueless newcomer into a more reliable, though still quirky, individual. Despite her initial incompetence, she demonstrates a surprising level of adaptability and, due to her partnership, captures a record number of spirits. In a major late-story revelation, her background is disclosed to be far more significant than it first appeared, as she is identified as a powerful being created as Hell's ultimate weapon. Ultimately, she transcends her origins as a demon, leaving the organization and officially becoming a permanent member of the human family she has lived with, taking the name Eri Katsuragi while retaining her memories of her past.

As a Runaway Spirit Squad agent, Elsie is equipped with several supernatural abilities. Her most versatile tool is her hagoromo, a multi-purpose raiment that can create objects and decoys, provide optical camouflage to make herself and others invisible, and grant her the power of flight when she can control it. She is almost always seen with a broom, which she used for three centuries as a custodian in Hell and which remains a powerful tool capable of both immaculate cleaning and immense destruction. This long career as a janitor has made her an excellent cook and cleaner, though her culinary skills are hampered by her use of dangerous, often living ingredients from Hell. A distinctive skull-shaped hair ornament she wears is actually a sensor for detecting runaway spirits. Later in the narrative, it is also revealed that she possesses the ability to stop time. Despite her many failings, her determination and unique skill set make her an indispensable, if unconventional, partner.
