TV-Series
Description
Jack Mighty is a young boy who appears as a supporting character and initial antagonist in the anime Rio - Rainbow Gate!. He is a Gate Holder, possessing the Jack Gate, and is distinguished by his brown eyes and short blue or green hair that reaches his neck. His typical attire includes a bow tie and a cape.
His background reveals a difficult past, as he and his parents were once part of a bomb disposal squad. This heritage explains his notable skill with machinery and electronics, as he is shown to be adept at manipulating and reprogramming mechanical systems. At some point before the events of the series, Jack was taken in by the ambitious casino dealer Cartia Goltschmidt. However, Cartia had no genuine interest in his well-being and only wished to exploit his special abilities for her own purposes.
Jack's personality is shaped by his situation as a tool for Cartia. He initially appears as an adversary, utilizing his powers to do her bidding. His first major action is to reprogram the robot Linda on Cartia's orders, turning her against the protagonist Rio Rollins in a Gate Battle. After Rio wins that match, he is forced to relinquish control of Linda. His primary motivation is a desire for freedom, as Cartia has promised to release him if he can defeat Rio in a Gate Battle of his own.
In his personal appearance to challenge Rio, Jack chooses a game of Space Pinball as the venue for their Gate Battle. To use his power, he clutches a pendant, which allows him to activate a form of psychokinesis known as Mighty Power. This telekinetic ability gives him a significant advantage during the match, allowing him to manipulate the game environment to his benefit. However, despite his initial upper hand, he is ultimately overwhelmed and loses to Rio after the match enters its third stage.
Despite his role as an opponent, Jack is not truly malicious. A significant relationship that develops is with Mint Clark, another young girl. Before his match with Rio, Mint speaks with Jack and learns about his past and his desire to win his freedom. There are hints of a budding, innocent connection between them; it is suggested that Mint may have feelings for him as she tries to persuade him not to use his powers against Rio, and Jack himself seems to anticipate a kiss from her after the battle, though he is surprised when it comes from her stuffed bear instead.
Following his defeat, Jack undergoes a clear development, moving from antagonist to ally. When the fourth stage of the game is accidentally triggered and endangers Mint, Jack willingly teams up with Rio to save her, setting aside their previous conflict. After leaving Cartia's service, he is often seen carrying around a pair of angel and devil dolls, a small visual cue of his new independent life. His skills and powers are later used for a nobler purpose, as he secretly employs his telekinesis to assist Rio in a different Gate Battle, further solidifying his turn away from his former role as a pawn for Cartia.
