TV-Series
Description
Faris Nyan-nyan, whose real name is Rumiho Akiha, is the number one maid at the cat-eared café MayQueen+Nyan² in Akihabara. At 17 years old, she is a second-year student at the private Kanaria Academy. Her most distinctive feature is her short stature, standing at only 143 cm tall, and she is almost always seen wearing her maid uniform along with a cat-ear headband. She is Lab Member No. 007 of the Future Gadget Lab.
On the surface, Faris embodies a bubbly and playful persona, often ending her sentences with "nyan" to enhance her cute, feline image. She is known for her imaginative and eccentric conversations, enthusiastically engaging with and even surpassing Rintaro Okabe's self-proclaimed mad scientist delusions, a talent he refers to as "Dubbing 10". Despite her cheerful and sometimes ditzy facade, Faris is actually highly perceptive, intelligent, and self-conscious. She claims to possess a mind-reading ability she calls the "Cheshire Cat Smile" or "Cheshire Break," which allows her to see into people's hearts by looking into their eyes. In reality, this is a product of her keen intuition and ability to read subtle emotional cues. This perceptiveness stems from a deep-seated fear of being left alone and a distrust of others, making her adept at uncovering hidden motives.
Beneath her maid costume lies a complex background. She is the daughter of a wealthy landowner who owns a significant portion of Akihabara, and she lives in the penthouse of a skyscraper with her butler. Her family's wealth and influence are directly tied to the history of the district. A pivotal event in her past is the death of her father ten years before the story begins. On her eighth birthday, after an argument where she accused him of loving his job more than her, he died in a plane crash while trying to return home early. This tragedy is the source of her deep-seated sadness and loneliness, which she conceals behind her cheerful personality. Her role as an idol-like maid and her influence in shaping Akihabara into a "moe" cultural hub were, in part, a result of her father's absence.
Faris's motivations become central to the story when she participates in the D-Mail experiments to save Mayuri Shiina. She reveals that she has already secretly sent a D-Mail to the past to prevent her father's death. This message successfully alters the world line, allowing her to live ten more happy years with her father. However, this change comes at a great cost, as it erases her influence on Akihabara, reverting the district back to an electronics shopping district, and most critically, makes it impossible to retrieve the IBN 5100 computer needed to undo other dangerous D-Mails. Her key relationship with Rintaro Okabe is tested here, as she is forced to confront the choice between her personal happiness and the fate of her friends. She is notable for being the first person besides Okabe to clearly retain memories from the previous world line, showcasing her strong will. Ultimately, she makes the painful decision to sacrifice her father's life to restore the original world line, demonstrating significant emotional development.
Outside of her central role in the main plot, Faris possesses several notable abilities. Besides her "Cheshire Break" intuition, she is a world-class, undefeated player of the fictional card game Rai-Net Access Battlers, a skill that requires strategic and psychological prowess. In alternate futures, such as in the Steins;Gate 0 storyline, she becomes a member of the resistance group Valkyrie under the codename "Cheshire Cat," continuing to fight for a better future. Her relationships with other lab members are also significant; she is a close friend and coworker of Mayuri Shiina, and shares a unique, mutually understanding bond with Okabe, whom she is one of the few to unflinchingly call by his self-given nickname, Kyouma.
