Description
Akane Fujisaki is the adoptive mother of Yūsuke Fujisaki, known as Bossun, and the biological mother of her daughter, Rumi Fujisaki. She works as a clothing designer, a profession that fits her fashionable and modern appearance. Akane has long, light brown hair that falls past her shoulders, brown eyes, and a distinct beauty mark near the right corner of her mouth. In flashbacks to her high school days, she is depicted with shorter hair.
Akane shares a deep history with Bossun’s biological parents, Haru and Ryōsuke Kirishima, having been their close friend during their school years. She witnessed many of Ryōsuke’s altruistic acts, such as when he risked his life to save a young boy from a car accident and helped an elderly woman who had collapsed. On the day of Haru’s birthday, Akane was driving her to the hospital when her car collided with another vehicle. Following the accident, Haru gave birth to twin sons but passed away shortly after, entrusting the care of her children to those around her. Akane took one of the twins, Yūsuke, to raise as her own, initially unaware that he had a twin brother.
Akane kept the truth about Yūsuke’s origins from him until he discovered it himself on his fifteenth birthday. Her personality is playful and sometimes appears irresponsible, as she enjoys teasing her son, particularly about his lack of success with girls on Valentine’s Day or his relationships. However, this lighthearted exterior masks a deep and genuine love for her children. When Yūsuke ran away from home after learning the truth about his birth, Akane’s reaction revealed her true feelings. Upon his return, she slapped him firmly and declared that he was everything to her, a moment that significantly strengthened their bond.
Throughout the story, Akane serves as a supportive and grounding figure in Bossun’s life. Her key relationships are centered on her family. With her biological daughter, Rumi, the two share a close bond and often team up to tease Bossun. Her relationship with her adoptive son is the most significant; she raised him with the same love she would have given a biological child, and he remains an integral part of her family despite the lack of blood relation. She also shares a connection with Sasuke Tsubaki, who is later revealed to be Bossun’s twin brother. She notes that while Bossun resembles his biological father, Tsubaki takes after his mother, Haru.
Akane’s role in the narrative is primarily that of a caring parent who provides a stable home life for the protagonist. Her backstory is crucial to understanding the circumstances of Bossun’s birth and the secret kept from him for fifteen years. In terms of abilities, she is a professional clothing designer. She is also shown to have a fondness for playing games. While not a central figure in the Sket-dan’s school-based activities, her presence offers a glimpse into the characters’ lives outside of school and underscores the theme of found family that runs through the series.
