Description
Cruppo is an anime-original character created for the television adaptation of Toriko. This creature is a small, cream and white bird with a distinctly plump and rounded body, tiny red eyes, and small wings that are proportionate to its frame. Despite possessing wings, Cruppo’s small body makes it unsuitable for use as a form of transportation for its human companions. Cruppo belongs to a unique species known as the Carrier Balloon Pigeon, a type of creature designed to utilize its homing instinct to deliver important items.

As a member of the Gourmet TV network, Cruppo is almost always seen in the company of Tina, a rookie reporter for the news program Gourmet News. While Tina attempts to capture interviews and footage of the famous Gourmet Hunter Toriko and his companions, Cruppo acts as her constant partner and a carrier of their recorded footage. The duo frequently attempts to follow Toriko on his dangerous expeditions in the hope of obtaining a major scoop, though these attempts often end unsuccessfully.

Cruppo’s most notable physical ability is the power to inflate its body to many times its normal size. This expansion is used as a form of intimidation or threat display. However, due to the bird’s inherently cute and unthreatening appearance, this defensive tactic is generally ineffective against potential threats. On occasion, this unique trait has been repurposed for more practical applications, allowing the bird to serve as a makeshift cushion for its handler. The character primarily exists within the narrative of the anime. While Cruppo was created for the show, it did make a brief cameo appearance in a single panel of the original manga, acknowledging its existence in that source material as well.
