TV-Series
Description
Ikari is the leader of the MK5, a group of five students from Ishiyama High School whose name stands for Majide Kuuki Yomenai 5-nin-gumi, roughly meaning the five people who really cannot read the atmosphere. He is a young man of very short stature, notably the shortest member of his group. His appearance is characterized by unkempt, spiky black hair with one or two small bangs that hang over his face. He wears a red polo shirt with a loosened purple necktie, navy blue pants, and has a distinctive scar that runs from the top left of his forehead down to his left ear. On that same ear, he wears a pin as an earring.
In terms of personality, Ikari is presented as a short-tempered and snarky individual. True to the nature of the MK5, his primary narrative function is that of a mood killer, often attempting to ruin the lighthearted or celebratory moments of other characters, though these plans typically end in failure. As the leader, he inspires a degree of trust from his fellow members, who follow his lead in their various disruptive schemes.
Ikari's role in the story is consistently that of a minor antagonist and a source of comic relief. The MK5 first appears and is promptly defeated by the main protagonist, Tatsumi Oga, and the demon Hildegard. Following this defeat, Ikari and his group come under the sway of another student named Miwa, who treats them as underlings. Ikari, in particular, seems to bear the brunt of Miwa's violent temperament. For instance, when Ikari accidentally refers to the powerful female student Aoi Kunieda by her title of Queen Kunieda, Miwa severely beats him to remind him who the real Queen of the school is. Despite these encounters, the MK5 continues to follow Miwa in his antics.
Key relationships define much of Ikari's presence. His dynamic with Miwa is based on fear, with Ikari serving as the fearful acting leader who reports on plans and receives punishment for any perceived disrespect toward Miwa. Within the MK5, as leader, the other members trust his decisions, even if the plans often lead to comedic failure. The group also has a distant relationship with a student named Shimokawa, tolerating his presence but not recognizing him as a full-fledged member. In one notable story arc, Ikari and his group seek to gain recognition among their peers by completing a special technique, only to be easily defeated by the character Takayuki Furuichi. Rather than being discouraged, Ikari, furious at the immediate difference in their strength, instead begs Furuichi to take him and his group on as disciples.
In terms of development, the MK5 remains a recurring gag, consistently appearing only to be swiftly and humorously defeated by the stronger characters in the series. Their most significant change in circumstance is their return to Ishiyama High School after months of reconstruction, only to be defeated again and buried into the school's concrete wall. Regarding abilities, while not powerful compared to the main cast, Ikari is noted to be the swiftest and most nimble member of the MK5. He is capable of appearing suddenly when reporting to Miwa, demonstrating a level of agility that surpasses his comrades.
