Description
Daimaō, also known as Beelzebub III, is the supreme ruler of the demon world and the father of the infant demon Beelzebub IV. His full name is Kaiser de Emperana Beelzebub III, and he holds the title of Great Demon Lord, having united the demon world under his rule after previously governing one of its constituent lands. His appearance is deliberately enigmatic; he is almost always depicted wearing a black cape and a helmet with prominent horns, with long green hair. His face is typically concealed either by being shown from behind or obscured by a long fringe of hair, maintaining an air of mystery around his features.

The personality of Daimaō is a striking contrast to his formidable title, defined largely by his ridiculousness, laziness, and extreme forgetfulness. He is often described as stupid and irresponsible, prone to doing random things on a whim. He greatly enjoys leisurely activities, such as singing karaoke, playing video games, and playing board games like Mahjong with his subordinates instead of attending to his royal duties. His forgetfulness is a central character trait; he once famously forgot that he had already sent his youngest son, Beelzebub, to the human world and later tried to assign the same mission to his older son, En. He has also apparently forgotten about his wife, Iris, and is known to spend time with other female demons, leading Iris to refer to him as a deadbeat husband. Despite these flaws, he possesses a fierce protective instinct for his family, demonstrated when he annihilated the entire Solomon Company and its elders as retribution for their attack on Iris, explicitly stating her suffering as his motivation.

Daimaōs primary motivation at the start of the story is his contempt for humanity, whom he believes multiply like cockroaches. This disdain leads him to order the destruction of the human world. However, his responsibility-free nature means he delegates this task to others. He initially sends his infant son, Beelzebub, to be raised by a human and destroy humanity, only to forget this order and later reassign the mission to his older son, En. This act of sending Beelzebub IV to the human world serves as the catalyst for the entire plot, forcing the human delinquent Tatsumi Oga into the role of the baby's demonic contractor.

His role in the story is primarily as a distant, high-level authority figure whose decisions drive the conflict. While he is a background presence for much of the series, his direct interventions are significant. He later demonstrates the capacity for change, revoking his order to destroy humanity after observing the bonds formed between humans and demons, particularly the relationship between Tatsumi Oga and his son. His most direct action comes when he personally defeats the leaders of the Solomon Company, holding them responsible for corruption.

In terms of relationships, he is the father of En, Beelzebub IV, and a daughter named Nico, and his wife is Iris. Despite his laziness and forgetfulness regarding his family, he commands a degree of respect and trust from other demons, including his son's powerful maid, Hildegard. His relationship with Oga is indirectly adversarial; Oga resents the demon lord for the endless troubles of serving as Beelzebubs contractor and has expressed a desire to go to the demon world simply to punch him.

Daimaō undergoes subtle development, shifting from a casually genocidal ruler to someone who recognizes the value of interspecies bonds. He ultimately changes his mind about destroying humanity, proving that beneath his ridiculous exterior, he is capable of growth and a degree of wisdom.

His notable abilities establish him as the most powerful entity in the series. He possesses immense demonic power, having triumphed over the other Seven Deadly Sins and fought a legendary battle against Satan that split the demon world. He is a master of electrokinesis, capable of generating and manipulating electricity for devastating attacks, such as the high-speed Lightning Cannon, which contrasts with the more predictable electrical abilities of his son. He also has the unique power to create specialized artificial demons, like Tamapochi, for long-term roles. Beyond combat, he is a talented artist, capable of painting highly detailed portraits, though he seems to undervalue this skill.
