Description
Takeshi Nakazato is the leader of the Myogi NightKids, a local street racing team based on the Myogi pass. He first appears during a race at Akina, where he observes Keisuke Takahashi of the RedSuns being defeated by the young driver Takumi Fujiwara. Surprised and impressed, Nakazato decides that he will be the one to challenge and defeat the so‑called Akina downhill specialist, and he also sets his sights on the RedSuns. Before the events of the series, Nakazato drove a Nissan Silvia S13 and employed drifting techniques, but after a devastating loss on his home course to a white Nissan Skyline GT‑R R32, he switched to that car and embraced a grip‑driving philosophy. He believes that no matter how skilled a driver is, a car cannot run beyond its capabilities, and he values acceleration and precise cornering over what he considers weak or showy drifting.
Nakazato is an intelligent and perceptive driver; he is one of the first to recognize Takumi’s gutter‑hook technique while watching the battle between Takumi’s AE86 and Keisuke’s FD. However, his greatest weakness is his temper. When his emotions get the better of him, his throttle control suffers, and he often pushes too hard, leading to mistakes such as poor tire management and crashes. He tends to race at full throttle without considering tire wear, which sometimes results in losing the race or damaging his car.
In the story of Second Stage, Nakazato serves as a key opponent who challenges Takumi on the Akina downhill. His role is to test Takumi’s growing reputation and to showcase the contrast between grip driving and the drifting style used by other characters. His rivalry with his own teammate, Shingo Shoji, is tense; the two do not get along publicly, though they share a grudging respect and a common understanding as members of the same team. Nakazato also demonstrates respect for Takumi, even going so far as to seek advice from him on how to improve his driving, a gesture that reveals a more open and humble side beneath his abrasive exterior.
Over the course of Second Stage, Nakazato’s development is marked by his continued struggle to control his emotions during high‑pressure races. He learns from his defeats, but his hot‑headed nature remains a persistent flaw. His notable abilities include exceptional acceleration and a strong command of grip driving lines, which give him an advantage on straight sections and in maintaining speed through corners. He is also capable of recognizing advanced techniques in his opponents, showing that he has a sharp analytical mind for racing. Despite his skill, his inability to stay calm under pressure often prevents him from achieving victories, making him a compelling and human character in the competitive world of Initial D.
