TV-Series
Description
Namihei Anno is a postman working on the planet Aqua, specifically based in the Cannaregio district of Neo Venezia. He is among the older postal workers in the city, a fact that earns him the affectionate nicknames Elder and Ojii-san from his colleagues. Namihei is the first person the protagonist Akari Mizunashi meets upon her arrival on Aqua, and he personally brings her sleeping self to the Aria Company after learning she will begin working there. This initial encounter establishes a warm and friendly bond between them that persists throughout the series.
In terms of personality, Namihei is a generally friendly, good-natured man who carries himself with a calm and confident demeanor. Like many residents of Aqua, he prefers to work at his own unhurried pace, yet he performs his postal duties with quiet efficiency, and his age does not hinder his ability in the slightest. He takes genuine pleasure in his job and is often willing to assist others with tasks that are even loosely related to his work, even when not required to do so. His motivations are rooted in a simple appreciation for his role in the community and a desire to help people, reflecting the laid-back yet diligent spirit of Neo Venezia.
Within the story, Namihei serves as a friendly supporting figure who occasionally interacts with Akari and her friends. Their established rapport leads to moments such as him borrowing Akari to help with a postal run when his gondola needs repairs, or Akari sending him an invitation to the Redentore festival. His role is not that of a mentor or teacher but rather of a familiar, trustworthy presence in the city's daily life. Key relationships include his ongoing friendship with Akari, which deepens over time. Notably, after Akari becomes a fully qualified Prima Undine, Namihei hires her for a gondola tour, making him her very first paying customer. It is at this point that Akari finally learns his real name, having previously known him only as Mr. Postman.
Namihei does not undergo significant dramatic development over the course of the series, as his character is defined by a steady, reliable consistency that aligns with the gentle, slice-of-life atmosphere of the world. His notable abilities include skillful navigation of the canals by gondola as part of his postal work, as well as a warm, approachable nature that makes him a well-liked figure in the community. He embodies the unhurried, harmonious way of life that characterizes Aqua and its people.
