Description
Falco, also known as Falko, is a character from the OVA series Air Gear: Kuro no Hane to Nemuri no Mori -Break on the Sky-. He holds the significant title of being the original Fang King and is also identified as a Gravity Child, a reference to his origins in a bioengineering project. In his prime, Falco was a member of the original Sleeping Forest, the legendary team that preceded the main story's generation of riders.
In his youth, Falco cut a striking figure as a slim and slender individual with long blonde hair and gray eyes. His typical attire was a fine suit complemented by a bowler hat and a cravat, giving him the appearance of a refined gentleman. However, his appearance changes dramatically following the disbandment of the original Sleeping Forest. After this event, he abandons his active life as a rider and transforms into a seemingly weak old man. In this later state, he develops a pot belly and a mustache, and his hair color shifts to black, reflecting his complete withdrawal from his former self.
Falco's primary and most notable ability stems from his former status as the Fang King. He is capable of firing several "solid" Fangs simultaneously without suffering any injury to himself. The creation of a Solid Fang involves collecting the inertial energy produced from landing and breaking, then remitting it as a highly concentrated wave. This technique is so powerful that the resulting Fang is dense enough to physically cut objects, a significant evolution from more standard, intangible attacks.
Despite his physical and mental decline, Falco retains a unique and powerful position within the world of Air Gear. He is the holder of the Eternal Seed for the Gram Scale Tournament, meaning he and his team, Inorganic Net, always have a permanently reserved spot in the competition. Inorganic Net is not a physical team but a digital copy of the original Sleeping Forest existing within a computer. Falco also holds the authority to grant his reserved spot to other riders, provided they are strong enough to defeat the Inorganic Net in battle. Beyond his connection to the tournament, Falco was also entrusted with the protection of Skylink, a crucial component of the powerful Sky Regalia, for an unknown period of time.
Falco's role in the story is that of a former legend who observes the new generation of riders. His personality has heavily soured over the years. After the destruction of his team, he quit Sleeping Forest and retreated from the world, becoming a reclusive and weak individual who spends his time playing visual novels. He acts as a cynical but insightful commentator on the potential of newer teams like Kogarasumaru, initially doubting their readiness but showing a grudging respect for their determination and bonds with one another. In a later development, Falco makes a return to action. He was seen on an airship carrier, having been recruited by Aeon Clock to assist the protagonist, Ikki, in his battle against the Thunder King, showing that he can still be called upon to participate in major conflicts.
