Description
Onigumo is a Marine Vice Admiral who appears in a supporting role in One Piece Film: Strong World, the tenth theatrical film of the One Piece anime. The film takes place between the Thriller Bark and Sabaody Archipelago storylines, when the Straw Hat Pirates face the legendary pirate Shiki, and Onigumo is shown among the high-ranking Marine officers involved in the events that unfold. Within the larger One Piece storyline, he is established as one of the five Vice Admirals who commanded the Buster Call on Enies Lobby, a distinction that places him among the elite of the Marine forces.

In terms of appearance, Onigumo is a tall man with a fearsome, intimidating face and eyes that are almost always closed. He smokes a cigarette and wears an ancient war helmet, with long hair flowing out from beneath it. His stern and menacing look matches his reputation as a ruthless officer who is not to be questioned.

Onigumo's personality is defined by his absolute commitment to the Marine doctrine of Absolute Justice, the belief that evil must be destroyed by any means necessary. He is cold-blooded and merciless, willing to sacrifice anyone, including his own comrades, if it serves the goal of defeating pirates. This is most clearly demonstrated during the Enies Lobby Buster Call, when he fatally shot a soldier in cold blood for questioning his order to destroy a fellow Marine ship, along with the roughly one thousand men aboard it, in order to eliminate Monkey D. Luffy. His willingness to kill a subordinate over a challenge to his command illustrates how far he will go in the name of duty.

His primary motivation is the eradication of piracy through total and unquestioning obedience to the Marines' mission. He treats the fight against pirates as a zero-sum struggle in which individual lives, including those of allied soldiers, are secondary to the mission's success. This makes him one of the more extreme representatives of the Marines' harsher interpretation of justice.

Within the story of Strong World, Onigumo serves as part of the Marine presence that responds to Shiki's threat. The film's events begin when Shiki uses his Devil Fruit powers to destroy Marine ships and deliver a warning to Fleet Admiral Sengoku and Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp, and the film concludes with the Marines capturing the retreating pirates, including Shiki himself. Onigumo appears in this supporting context as a member of the Marine command structure, with his presence reinforcing the severity of the threat and the institutional authority of the Marines responding to it.

In terms of key relationships, Onigumo operates alongside the higher command of the Marines, including serving under Fleet Admiral Sengoku and being counted among the Vice Admirals entrusted with major operations. He has also been a student of the former Admiral Zephyr, and in other parts of the series he works alongside officers such as Admiral Kizaru. His interactions with the main cast are limited, as his role is that of an officer pursuing pirates rather than a personal rival to any individual, and he has no notable personal connection to the Straw Hat Pirates or the antagonists of Strong World beyond his professional duty to capture them.

Onigumo does not undergo significant personal development within Strong World. His character is presented as static and fully formed, defined by his ruthless efficiency and dedication to Absolute Justice. In the broader series, he demonstrates the same qualities across the Enies Lobby and Marineford arcs, where he remains a capable and durable officer who carries out his duties without hesitation, even in the most extreme circumstances.

As a Vice Admiral, Onigumo possesses considerable combat ability and authority. He is one of the stronger officers of his rank and is capable of commanding a Buster Call, one of the Marines' most devastating military operations. He is a skilled swordsman who fights using multiple blades, a fighting style supported by an unnamed Zoan-type Devil Fruit power that allows him to sprout six additional spider-like arms from his back, enabling him to wield as many as eight sabers simultaneously. He also makes use of Life Return, a technique that gives him precise control over his body; he notably employed it during the Marineford war to catch up to Marco the Phoenix and place Sea Prism Stone handcuffs on him, neutralizing Marco's Devil Fruit powers and leaving him vulnerable to attack. Additionally, he has demonstrated proficiency in Armament Haki, which strengthens his attacks and defenses and allows him to strike Devil Fruit users directly, and Observation Haki, which enhances his awareness of enemies and their movements. Together, these abilities make Onigumo a formidable and dangerous Marine officer whose presence in Strong World underscores the might of the organization he serves.
