TV-Series
Description
Aiko Kuriyama is the school nurse at Kamohashi Elementary School, where she is a colleague of the newly hired teacher Satoshi Yabe. She is 24 years old. In the anime adaptation, she and Yabe join the school's staff at the same time and are introduced together to the faculty. She is often referred to by the nickname Kuriyamacchi by the students.
Aiko has a gentle and kind-hearted nature, and she genuinely takes pleasure in seeing the students healthy and free from injury. However, her most defining trait is her extraordinary clumsiness. She is completely helpless without her glasses and cannot see anything when she is not wearing them. This lack of vision often leads to humorous misunderstandings. Even with her glasses on, she can be quite clumsy, though the condition worsens dramatically without them. Physically, she wears her hair in twin braids and has been noted by Yabe to look cute without her glasses.
Her primary motivation as a nurse is the well-being of the students, as she states that she is happy when everyone is well. However, her methods of treatment are highly unorthodox. For even a minor injury like a nosebleed, she has a tendency to mummify the patient in bandages, a technique she has named the Healing Roll. Her role in the story is largely tied to her position at the school and her interactions with the faculty and students, particularly the troublesome Class 6-3. The Marui triplets often try to orchestrate situations to bring her together with Yabe, hoping to spark a romance between them.
Aiko's most significant relationship is with Satoshi Yabe. Yabe has a clear crush on her, but Aiko is completely oblivious to his feelings. Instead, she frequently misunderstands his actions and words, leading her to believe he is a pervert. For instance, after losing her glasses and seeing Yabe in pain from a self-inflicted injury, she could not recognize him and thought he was a fourth-grade student. These misunderstandings are a running gag, causing her to label his class as a "class of perverts" when she only gets partial information about their antics. There is very little character development in the traditional sense, as the series relies on comedic situations. Her clumsy and kind personality remains consistent throughout, and she continues to be unaware of Yabe's affection. Her interactions with the Marui triplets often involve her mistaking one of them for being injured and applying her excessive bandaging technique.
A notable ability, aside from her extreme clumsiness, is her signature medical technique, the Healing Roll, which involves thoroughly wrapping a person in bandages. She is also known for the catchphrase Healing Rolling which she calls out when performing this treatment.
