TV-Series
Description
Omito Date is a character in Sakigake!! Otoko Juku who begins the story as a villain and later becomes an ally. He is introduced as the former leader of the Kanto Great Student Alliance, a powerful coalition of delinquent schools, and he is regarded as the second-strongest member of Otokojuku's first-year class. Before becoming an antagonist, he was the head student of Otokojuku's first-year class, a position that placed him at the top of the entire academy. The headmaster, Heihachi Edajima, described him as someone who excelled at everything and called him a talent not seen in the school's 300-year history. Date was forced to leave the academy after killing an instructor, an event known within the school as the Otokojuku 2.15 Incident. The instructor had abused students harshly for his own purposes rather than treating them as people, and Date took responsibility for removing him. His most distinctive physical features are three scars on each cheek, marks left on him by that same instructor, and a tattoo on his left wrist that identifies him as a survivor of an ordeal called the Korokuto.

In the story, Date first appears as a threat when the Kanto Great Student Alliance, which controls 98 schools and roughly a thousand members across the Kanto region, attacks Otokojuku during the school festival. After the headmaster proposes a decisive contest known as the Kyōra Daiyon Kyōsatsu on Mount Fuji, Date fights the main character, Momotaro, and loses for the first time. He accepts his defeat with composure and, along with his three trusted officers, rejoins Otokojuku as a first-year student. From that point onward, he serves as one of the academy's strongest fighters, often facing the deputy commander of each opposing team and winning most of his battles decisively, with Momotaro remaining the only person to defeat him.

Personality-wise, Date is calm, composed, and proud. He can be harsh and insulting toward enemies and strict even with his own allies, but underneath this exterior he is deeply devoted to his comrades and more emotionally warm than he appears. He follows a personal code that includes never killing women. His initial motivations are rooted in his bitterness toward Otokojuku after his expulsion, but his defeat by Momotaro allows him to move past that grudge and commit himself to the school's values. His deeper sense of justice is shown in his reason for killing the instructor, an act he carried out to protect students he felt were being treated as less than human.

His key relationships include his fierce rivalry with Momotaro, which matures into mutual respect and a close friendship, and his bond with the Three Fists, Raiden, Hien, and Gekkou, who remain absolutely loyal to him and are willing to risk their lives for him. The headmaster Edajima continues to regard him as an exceptional figure and permits his return to the academy. He also forms a strong friendship with his classmate Genji Togashi, whose personality contrasts with his own.

In terms of abilities, Date is a master of the Hakkyoku style, which includes Hakkyoku spear technique and a close-combat method that strikes vital points to control an opponent's life and death. His weapon of choice is the Jatetsusō spear, and one of his notable techniques is the Jatotsu, a throwing or thrusting move delivered at incredible speed. His survival of the Korokuto, a cruel contest designed to create the strongest fighters, also speaks to his endurance and combat experience. After graduating, he later appears in the broader story as the head of a yakuza organization called the Date-gumi, acting as a powerful ally in the series' successor works. A spinoff story devoted to him follows his journey after his expulsion and his first meeting with the Three Fists.
