TV-Series
Description
Hien is a prominent character in Sakigake!! Otokojuku, first appearing as an antagonist before becoming a major ally and a key member of the group known as the Three Fists. His background reveals him to be a master of the Birdman Fist, a graceful and deadly form of Chinese kung fu.

In terms of appearance, Hien stands out dramatically from the rest of the cast, being considerably more effeminate in his features. He has long, blond hair with bangs, though in the anime adaptation his hair color is changed to pink. While he is occasionally seen in the standard Otokojuku uniform, he more frequently wears a white kung-fu uniform when engaging in combat.

Hien's personality undergoes a notable shift as the story progresses. He is initially presented as a narcissist, self-absorbed and confident in his own abilities to the point of arrogance. However, from the events of the Tenchou Gorin onward, he develops a calmer and more charismatic demeanor. Despite this change in disposition, he consistently shows no mercy to his enemies, maintaining a ruthless edge in battle.

His role in the story is significant. After his initial defeat, Hien joins forces with the protagonists and becomes a valuable asset to the Kanto Great Student Alliance. He participates in several major arcs, including the Great Trembling Conquest of the Unified Eight, the Tenchou Gorin Olympic Tournament, and the Battle of the Seven Tusks. During the latter, he demonstrates a surprisingly compassionate side when he saves a group of chicks from being eaten by a feline. Later in that same battle, the mother of those chicks returns to assist him, distracting his opponent Devarez and allowing Hien to secure victory.

Hien's key relationships are primarily with his comrades among the Three Fists and the other students of Otokojuku. His development arc transforms him from a self-centered narcissist into a more level-headed and even charismatic figure, though his lethal efficiency in combat never fades. In later life, he has a successor, Hien CLIII, indicating that the name and perhaps the techniques are passed down through generations.

Regarding his abilities, Hien is a master of the Birdman Fist, which allows him to move as swiftly as a swallow and attack as sharply as a hawk. His primary weapon is the Thousand Cranebeak Needles, a set of needles he throws with pinpoint accuracy. Using his knowledge of Chinese acupuncture, these needles can cause a variety of effects, from paralysis to muscle control. His techniques with these needles include the Crucifix Strike, the Nerve Severing technique, the Three-Point Strike, and the Invisible Kill of Ignorance, a psychological tactic where he bluffs with pebbles before delivering a lethal, nearly invisible needle. He also employs the Claws of the Hawk, a set of iron claws for melee combat. Among his most devastating techniques is the Verse of Demise, the final secret of the Birdman Fist. This suicide technique involves piercing his own nerves with needles to temporarily heighten his physical abilities, culminating in a double-handed piercing strike called the Ultimate Light of the Twin Palms, though its use inevitably results in death by blood loss. Other powerful techniques include the Neck-Twisting Spinning Kick, the Flying Bird Grave Fall, and the Cranebeak Crimson Mist, which involves using his own blood to camouflage his needles.
