Description
Otome Chono is a main character in the anime Koi Koi Seven and one of the six cyborg girls who make up the Koi Koi 7 team at Gokou Academy. In the story's setting, the team members are girls who were revived as cyborgs after losing their lives in accidents, and Otome's cybernetic body is the oldest model among them. She was converted earlier than the others, which accounts for her small, childlike build despite being, in a sense, the senior member of the team. She lives in the Gokou Academy dormitory as one of the roommates of the protagonist, Tetsuro Tanaka, and carries out the group's mission of protecting him. She has long blonde hair and a youthful appearance.

Personality-wise, Otome is calm, composed, and far less aggressive than the other members of the group. She speaks in a quiet, flat, almost mechanical tone and early in the series frequently responds with the word "incomprehensible," which makes her seem robotic. This impression is reinforced by her behavior; she recharges by plugging herself into an electrical outlet, even at the breakfast table. Beneath this emotionless surface, however, she has a bright personality that enjoys jokes, and she shows quiet kindness in small moments. For example, she is concerned about a puppy that gets wet in the rain, and when her teammate Hifumi suggests eating the dog, Otome makes a deliberately inaccurate remark about dog-eating culture in what appears to be an awkward attempt to protect the animal. Because her body is an older model, she rarely displays emotion openly, but these moments reveal a gentle and thoughtful nature.

Her role in the story is that of the team's analyst and coordinator. She receives and processes data and then relays orders and information to the rest of the Koi Koi 7 members during their battles, effectively acting as the group's tactical brain. Within the team, she corresponds to the Peony and Butterfly flower card in the hanafuda motif that gives the group its identity, and she attends Gokou Academy as a first-year student. In the anime, she is also the origin of the distinctive receiving pose associated with her function as an information receiver, a mannerism that was later carried over into the original manga.

In terms of abilities, Otome is a telepathy-type cyborg. She can receive transmissions and data, analyze the information, and communicate it to her teammates, making her essential to the team's coordination. She requires electrical recharging through a plug and, as an addition unique to the anime, has a notable weakness: when she gets wet, she short-circuits and all of her functions freeze until she recovers. Her devotion to the group's cause is underscored by material suggesting she chose to become a cyborg out of a resolve to save the world.

Otome's relationships are defined largely by her role in the group. She shares living space with Tetsuro, the boy the team protects, and interacts with her fellow Koi Koi 7 members in a calm and professional manner, with moments of dry humor such as her exchange with Hifumi over the puppy. Her development in the series is subtle; she does not undergo a dramatic personality change, but the contrast between her mechanical exterior and her understated compassion becomes clearer as the story progresses, and the quiet idealism behind her decision to become a cyborg gives depth to a character who initially comes across as an efficient machine.
