Description
Opale, whose name appears in the original Japanese as Opal, is a supporting Jewelpet in the anime Jewelpet Twinkle. She is a legendary female winged unicorn with a periwinkle body, a light yellow horn, pink inner ears, and a purple mane and tail, and her wings are decorated with pink and yellow jewels. In the franchise she represents hidden talent, awakening, and miracles, which matches her status as a figure of legendary power.
Her backstory places her at the center of Jewel Land's history. One thousand years before the events of the series, Jewel Land had become a barren, war-torn landscape, and Opale is the one who restored it and banished evil and dark magic from both Jewel Land and the human world. In the series itself she first appears in episode 26, where her history becomes connected to the character Alma. Opale was Alma's original partner Jewelpet. Alma carried deep pain and sorrow, and as her suffering grew into darkness, Opale tried to protect her from its consequences. When Alma moved to attack the Fountain Dragon, Opale shielded the creature at the cost of her own life and was sealed into the form of a Jewel Charm. Even while sealed, she continued to worry about Alma, who kept pushing herself even as she was worn down. Opale later reaches out to Akari, sharing Alma's story and offering guidance that helps resolve the conflict surrounding Alma. She appears again in episode 51 in the same guiding role.
