Description
Alice Sakaguchi, also known as Ancolie, is a central figure in the narrative. She is introduced as a shy and quiet high school student who has recently moved to Tokyo from a peaceful town in Hokkaido, an environment she misses for its lack of pollution and tranquility. Initially, she appears as a gentle and sensitive girl, deeply empathetic towards animals and plants. This sensitivity makes her particularly vulnerable to the cruel pranks of her eight-year-old neighbor, Rin Kobayashi, who teases her mercilessly from their first meeting.

Alice’s personality is defined by a thoughtful and cautious nature, often perceived by others as passive, though she is actually quite resilient and mature. Her core motivation throughout the story is a deep-seated fear of losing her identity. She is the reincarnation of Mokuren, a beautiful and powerful moon scientist, but Alice dreads that if she fully embraces her past life’s memories, she will cease to be herself. This fear leads her to resist participating in the shared "moon dreams" that connect her to the other reincarnated scientists, and she even attempts to live a normal life by joining the school choir instead of attending their secret meetings.

Despite her resistance, Alice’s role in the story is pivotal as the reincarnation of Mokuren. Her connection to her past life manifests through notable abilities, primarily a Kiches Sarjalian power she has retained. She can communicate with plants and animals and possesses the extraordinary ability to make plants grow rapidly by singing to them, a skill that often manifests involuntarily when she is distressed. In her past life on the moon, Mokuren was a biologist whose singing could cause the entire lunar base to sprout weeds, and this power is intrinsically tied to Alice’s emotional state in the present.

Her key relationships drive much of the plot. The most significant is her complex bond with Rin Kobayashi, who is the reincarnation of the tortured scientist Shion. After a tragic accident where Alice slaps Rin and he falls from a balcony, he awakens from a coma with full memories of his past life and proceeds to blackmail Alice into an engagement. While initially caring for him only as a neighbor, Alice later develops genuine romantic feelings for him, ignoring the significant nine-year age difference. She also becomes a figure of affection for Jinpachi Ogura, the reincarnation of Gyokuran, which creates further tension within the group of reincarnated individuals. Later in the story, Alice is shown to be a source of strength and understanding, as when she breaks free from being confined by Rin and seeks to understand his tormented psyche, showing her deep compassion.

Throughout the series, Alice undergoes significant development as she reconciles her present self with her past. She eventually stops rejecting Mokuren’s memories and learns to integrate them into her own identity without being consumed by them. She transforms from a girl who passively tries to avoid her fate into someone who actively confronts the traumas of the past to help those she loves. This growth culminates in her future; in the sequel series, set fifteen years later, Alice is married to Rin and has two children, Ren and Chimako, having built a happy life that overcomes the tragedies of both her present and former lives.
