Description
Kureha Suzuka is a young police lieutenant who joined the force at the age of eighteen and serves in the elite Special Public Safety Task Force known as Tokko. Recognized as a prodigy, she carries the weight of a traumatic past as a survivor of the Machida massacre, a catastrophic event orchestrated by supernatural entities called Phantoms. During that incident her parents were killed by Phantoms, and her younger brother Akito died by her own hands, an experience that profoundly shaped her. In the aftermath she changed her originally brown hair to bright yellow as a personal symbol of moving forward, and this striking long blonde hair, often worn in a hime cut with blunt bangs and paired with black eyes, became a defining part of her appearance.

Her personality blends capable professionalism with a teasing, flirtatious side. Kureha takes a pointed interest in Ranmaru Shindo, a new investigator who survived the same massacre, drawn to his looks and his history. She does not hesitate to act on this curiosity, kissing him during a cemetery visit to her family’s resting place. Yet when the bond between Ranmaru and fellow Tokko operative Sakura Rokujo deepens, Kureha steps back from romantic pursuit while continuing to engage in light-hearted teasing and idle flirtation throughout the rest of the story. This playful demeanor coexists with a resolute, pragmatic nature; she is willing to make harsh decisions when necessary, demonstrating a ruthless edge born of her experiences.

Her motivations are tightly interwoven with her losses. As a Tokko operative she is dedicated to hunting down the Phantoms that shattered her life, reclaiming the fragments of the Box of Dirge, and preventing further catastrophe. This drive pushes her to play a critical role in awakening Ranmaru’s latent Phantom abilities: she mortally wounds him and hurls him into the Machida hole, a drastic act that forces his transformation and equips him to fight the creatures that conventional weaponry cannot harm.

Within the Tokko unit Kureha works alongside Sakura Rokujo, Takeru Inukai, and their superintendent Ryoko Ibuki. Her relationship with Ranmaru remains complex, shifting from potential romance to a supportive yet teasing camaraderie, while she maintains a professional rapport with the rest of the team. Her development reflects a survivor’s armor: she channels grief into action, adapts her identity with her changed appearance, and accepts the grim necessities of their war without losing her spirited edge.

Kureha’s combat abilities are rooted in her symbiont tattoo, which marks her as a host to one of the 108 dormant Phantoms. This symbiont grants superhuman physical enhancements, and her preferred weapons are a pair of daggers with retractable blades, wielded with lethal precision. Her police training and innate talent make her a formidable close-quarters fighter, and she employs these skills alongside her teammates in the covert war against the Phantoms.
