Description
Belmot, more commonly known by her codename Vermouth, is a high-ranking operative of the Black Organization whose true identity is that of a celebrated yet enigmatic American actress. Her public life is a fabrication, having originally performed under the name Sharon Vineyard, an Oscar-winning star who studied the art of disguise alongside Yukiko Kudo under the tutelage of master magician Toichi Kuroba. To conceal her mysterious lack of aging, she later invented the persona of her own supposed daughter, Chris Vineyard, and after staging Sharon Vineyard's death, she continues to operate under this younger identity in the public eye.

Vermouth is a woman of profound contradictions, making her one of the most unpredictable members of the syndicate. She is a ruthless and efficient agent, capable of blackmail, manipulation, and cold-blooded murder without hesitation. Twenty years before the main storyline, she assassinated an FBI agent and set fire to his home, an act that would later drive his daughter, Jodie Starling, to join the Bureau. However, she also displays unexpected warmth and a fierce protective instinct towards specific individuals. This stems from an incident in New York City where a disguised Vermouth was saved from a fatal fall by a young Shinichi Kudo and Ran Mouri. Touched by their selfless act, she thereafter refers to Shinichi as Cool Guy and to Ran as Angel, vowing to protect them. She demonstrates a similar, almost reverent, faith in Conan Edogawa, whom she repeatedly calls the Silver Bullet, believing he is the only one capable of destroying the Black Organization. Her loyalty is a paradox: she is a favorite of the Organization's enigmatic boss, which grants her unusual autonomy, yet she secretly harbors hopes for its downfall and actively conceals critical information from her colleagues, such as Conan and Ai Haibara's true identities.

Vermouth's personal agenda is heavily influenced by a deep-seated animosity towards the research of the Miyano family, the creators of the APTX 4869 drug. She harbors a particular hatred for Shiho Miyano, known within the Organization as Sherry and later as the child Ai Haibara. This hatred drives many of her actions, though she is repeatedly prevented from exacting revenge by Conan's intervention. Her relationships within the Organization are complex and often strained. While she works alongside figures like Gin, she maintains a mysterious and often teasing rapport with him, and he is distrustful of her secretive nature, which she famously justifies with the phrase, A secret makes a woman woman. She also has a history of looking down on other members, such as the late Pisco. She is also being blackmailed by another agent, Bourbon, who has uncovered a secret connection she shares with the Organization's boss that she desperately wants to keep hidden.

Her skills are as multifaceted as her personality. She is a master of disguise and voice mimicry, earning her the moniker of the "Thousand-Faced Witch." Her abilities in this field are so advanced that she can flawlessly impersonate anyone, including, most notably, Dr. Tomoaki Araide for an extended period. She is also a highly capable actress, an expert intelligence gatherer, a skilled physician, and a formidable combatant with exceptional marksmanship and driving abilities. Her physical prowess is notable, as she has demonstrated remarkable agility and stamina even after sustaining serious injuries.

In the film The Raven Chaser, Vermouth plays a supporting but pivotal role, acting as an observer and facilitator. She appears at a large police conference disguised as a brown-haired police officer in a dark suit and glasses. Her purpose is to check on the progress of a fellow operative named Irish and to ensure the integrity of his disguise. After texting the Organization's boss from a bathroom to provide a status update, she quietly exits the building and leaves in Gin's Porsche. Later, Conan tracks her to an underground parking lot and forces her to reveal herself. During this confrontation, she provides Conan with essential information about Irish's plans, effectively giving him a fighting chance. She is also revealed to have been the one supervising a captured police official, supplying him with food and comforts. As the climax unfolds, she watches from a distance as Gin's helicopter crashes, and she remarks on Conan's accomplishments, once again calling him a "silver bullet" before driving away. In this film, her role is that of a shadowy overseer who, while technically on the Organization's side, deliberately aids the protagonist, further cementing her status as an unpredictable wild card.
