Description
Agito Wanijima is a complex figure defined by a fractured psyche, as the name refers to one of several distinct personalities inhabiting a single body. This individual is known primarily as the Fang King, a title signifying mastery over the Bloody Road, one of the many extreme riding styles in the world of Air Treks (ATs). The body is shared by two primary personalities, Akito and Agito, who switch control by moving an eyepatch from one eye to the other, with a third, far more powerful personality named Lind emerging later.
The background of these personalities is rooted in a traumatic upbringing. They were originally part of the Wind SWAT team, where their older brother, Kaito Wanijima, treated them as little more than a tool for combat. It is revealed that Akito was the original Fang King, but he became so disgusted by the violence he was forced to commit that he suffered a mental breakdown, rendering him unable to use his Air Treks. To cope with this reality and to protect the original personality, the brutal and aggressive Agito personality was born. The dynamic changes when they are rescued by Ikki Minami, the protagonist, after which they abandon Wind SWAT and become founding members of the team Kogarasumaru.
The personalities are starkly contrasted. Akito, dominant when the eyepatch covers the left eye, is innocent, gentle, and non-violent. He is notably affectionate and openly attracted to Ikki, often attempting to kiss him, join him in the bath, or sleep beside him, much to Ikki's discomfort. Akito is also mechanically skilled and acts as Agito's personal tuner, maintaining his Air Treks and Regalia. Agito, in control when the eyepatch is over the right eye, is his polar opposite: a violent, foul-mouthed, and bloodthirsty rider whose nature is often compared to a shark. He uses profanity freely and fights with a savage grace. Despite his abrasive exterior, Agito develops a deep respect for Ikki's strength and a desire to protect the vulnerable Akito, which serves as his primary motivation.
As the story progresses, the character undergoes significant development, particularly with the emergence of a third personality, Lind. Lind first awakens during a desperate battle against the Genesis member Orca and claims to be the body's original and true personality. Lind is far stronger than both Akito and Agito, capable of utilizing the Fang Regalia on an entirely different level. Identified as a "Brain Charger" and a prototype for the Gravity Children, Lind possesses unique ocular traits, with crosses in the eyes that distinguish them from others. The revelation of Lind adds profound depth to their origin, as Lind is later implied to be connected to Gazelle, the first Thorn Queen, and is revealed to be the child of Kaito and Gazelle. Lind generally regards Akito and Agito with a sense of superiority, referring to them as "babies," but also demonstrates a protective instinct, particularly towards Kaito and, on one occasion, compassion for Yayoi Nakayama by sharing air during an underwater battle.
In terms of role and relationships, Agito is initially the powerhouse of Kogarasumaru, often responsible for the team's most critical victories and for pushing them into high-stakes battles, such as the match against Behemoth to reclaim the Fang Regalia. His key relationship is with his other selves, but he also forms a significant bond with Ikki, whom he respects as a leader and friend, even if he rarely shows it openly. He also shares a unique dynamic with the tuner Yayoi Nakayama, who helps him unlock the full potential of his Regalia, which had been operating at a severely limited capacity due to Akito's limitations as a tuner. The text suggests Agito also shows a gruff form of care towards Yayoi, telling her to protect herself rather than rely on others.
The notable abilities of this character are centered on their status as the Fang King. The primary combatant, Agito, wields the Fang Regalia. His signature technique involves using the instant acceleration and braking of the AT's wheel motors to create a vacuum, compressing air into a pressurized shockwave that is released as a piercing "Fang". In battle, he also uses four hooks attached to straps on his legs to tear at opponents. When Yayoi properly tunes the Regalia, its functionality increases dramatically from a meager fraction to its full, devastating power. Agito has also shown the capability to generate a powerful "Leviathan" fang even without the Regalia. The personality Lind, however, demonstrates the ultimate mastery of this power, using the Fang Regalia at a level that far surpasses the other two, cementing their status as one of the most formidable riders in the series.
