Description
Issha Mihotoke, known to nearly everyone by his nickname Buccha, is a significant figure in the world of Air Gear. He is a student at Higachu Junior High School and initially appears as an antagonist before becoming a core member of the team Kogarasumaru. Before joining forces with the protagonist, Buccha was the leader of a rival team called the Night Kings, which was disbanded after he lost a Parts War against Ikki.

Buccha presents a unique physical contradiction. He appears to be very large and obese, but this is deceptive. His body is only ten percent fat; the majority of his size is actually due to an enormous amount of blood that pools in his torso from his habit of overeating. He possesses the ability to manipulate this blood, a technique referred to as Pump Up or Bulk Up. By redirecting the blood flow to his muscles, his physique transforms dramatically. He becomes remarkably slim, muscular, and well-defined, with even his limbs extending to grant him greater reach in combat. This physical power is complemented by his chosen equipment; he often wears studded or brass knuckle-like gloves that amplify his already devastating close-range attacks.

In terms of personality, Buccha is a character of contrasting states. When not in a fight, he is generally friendly, easygoing, and primarily concerned with eating and relaxing. However, when the subject turns to battle, or when he is in a serious combat situation, a more ferocious side of him emerges. This shift is so pronounced that it has been compared to a semi-split personality, transforming him into a relentless and powerful fighter. His original motivations were rooted in a desire to dominate as a Storm Rider, which led him to collect emblems and bully others as the head of the Night Kings. After his defeat by Ikki, his motivations shifted. He chose to put his past behind him, abandon his bully-like attitude, and start over as a loyal and steadfast friend and teammate.

Role-wise, Buccha serves as the team's tank or powerhouse. His immense strength and durability make him the primary close-quarters combat specialist of Kogarasumaru, often taking on the toughest opponents head-on. He is a founding member of the team and one of Ikki's most reliable allies. His key relationships are primarily within Kogarasumaru, especially with Ikki, whose rivalry turned into a strong friendship. He also has a significant relationship with his father, who is a Buddhist monk. This familial connection plays a crucial role in his character development, as his father subjects him to intense training, such as a waterfall meditation where he is hit with boulders, to help Buccha strengthen his mental focus and self-confidence.

Throughout the story, Buccha undergoes notable development. Initially, it is mentioned that despite possessing the raw skill to potentially rival a King, he lacks the mental fortitude and suffers from a brash nature that prevents him from using his full power. His training with his father directly addresses this weakness, teaching him greater concentration and calmness in battle. His combat level also grows significantly, recorded as rising from 22 upon introduction, to 64 prior to a major fight, and later to 68. He even develops a specific fighting style called High Speed Light Tank Mode, where he focuses the blood flow to his lower body for increased speed rather than his upper body for strength.

Notable abilities include his various combat tricks. Beyond the fundamental Pump Up technique, he can perform tricks like the Back Spin Wallride 360°, Spinning Wallride Overbank 1800°, and the devastating Hammerhead Death. He also has a combined attack with Ikki named the Buccha Tornado. His mastery over his own physiology extends to using the iron in his blood for attacks like the Enlightenment Pump Up V3. Furthermore, due to the immense volume of blood in his body, which holds ten times the oxygen of a normal human, he can hold his breath for over twenty minutes. His fighting style and sheer resilience have led to him being called the King of Mountains, signifying his power and stability.
