Description
Akito and Agito Wanijima are two distinct personalities inhabiting the same body, making them a singular yet multifaceted character who holds the title of Fang King on the Bloody Road. They are originally introduced as a member of the Wind SWAT team, where they were treated as a tool by their older brother, Kaito Wanijima. Their circumstances change dramatically when they are saved by the protagonist, Ikki, leading them to join the team Kogarasumaru and find a new sense of belonging. The shift between the two primary personalities is visually represented by an eyepatch; when it covers the right eye, the gentle Akito is in control, and when it covers the left, the aggressive Agito dominates.
The personalities are stark contrasts of one another. Akito is innocent, cheerful, and non-violent, possessing a feminine demeanor and a timid nature. He was originally the Fang King, but became so disgusted by the violence he was forced to commit that he mentally shut down, creating Agito to take his place and bear the burden. As a result, Akito largely avoids using Air Trecks. He develops a strong, childlike affection for Ikki, often trying to kiss him or share a bath, much to Ikki's discomfort. Despite his pacifism, it is suggested that an angry Akito can be even more frightening than his counterpart.
Agito, in contrast, is the dominant and more frequently seen personality. He is violent, foul-mouthed, and bloodthirsty, with a demeanor often compared to a shark. His primary drive is the protection of Akito, and his strength is derived from this desire. Agito is a genius fighter with keen instincts, capable of replicating techniques after seeing them only once. He is aloof and rude towards his teammates, though he respects their strength and will act as the team's tactician, utilizing his extensive knowledge of the Air Treck world. While he professes not to care for others, his actions often reveal a more complex nature, and he shows a tsundere tendency to help when it truly matters.
The character's role in the story is primarily that of a powerful combatant and strategist for Kogarasumaru. As the Fang King, Agito's combat abilities are a crucial asset, and his experience helps guide the team through dangerous political and physical battles. His past as part of the Wind SWAT team, specifically the betrayal by a former comrade named Akira Udou, creates a deep-seated mistrust of others that he must learn to overcome. Key relationships include his brother Kaito, who used him as a tool, and Ikki, who showed him freedom and for whom both personalities hold a deep, if differently expressed, respect. Another important dynamic is with Yayoi Nakayama, who becomes Agito's official tuner, unlocking the full potential of his Regalia when Akito could not.
Later in the story, a third, original personality named Lind emerges. Lind is much stronger than Agito or Akito and is identified as a Brain Charger, a prototype of the Gravity Children. Lind claims to be the first personality, and it is revealed that Lind's consciousness is actually a copy of Gazelle, the first Thorn Queen and the mother of the body they inhabit. This makes Agito and Akito secondary personalities, created from the mental turmoil of Lind's existence being too much for the host body to handle. Ruthless and disdainful, Lind refers to Akito and Agito as babies and possesses a hybrid fighting style that merges the Bloody Road's offense with the Sonia Road's flexibility.
The character undergoes significant development, primarily through Agito's journey. Initially defined solely by his role as Akito's protector and a tool for battle, Agito begins to question his own identity and purpose. He struggles with self-doubt regarding his physical weakness and the limits of his abilities, especially when faced with powerful enemies. Over time, he learns to trust his comrades in Kogarasumaru and develops his own sense of self-worth, moving beyond just being a shield for Akito. The full power of his Fang Regalia is realized when he accepts Yayoi as his tuner, and his signature attacks, such as the Bloody Blade Fang and the tag-team Grand Fang Firebird with teammate Kazu, demonstrate his growth as a rider and a team member.
The character's notable abilities revolve around the Fang Regalia and the concept of Fangs. These are pressurized shockwaves of air created by the instantaneous acceleration and deceleration of the Air Treck motors, which can be fired at opponents to slice through almost anything. Agito also uses four hooks on straps attached to his legs as slashing weapons in close combat. His specific tricks include the Leviathan, a powerful fang that he can perform without his Regalia when aided by Akito, and the Bloody Blade Fang. As Lind, the character gains access to the powers of a Brain Charger, including the Virgin Blade technique and the ability to combine the Bloody and Sonia Roads, making him an exceptionally dangerous and high-level rider with a R.E.A.D level far exceeding that of a standard King.
