Description
Minotaure is the Shadow belonging to Jiro, one of the main characters in the anime Blue Dragon. Shadows are powerful beings that can be summoned by their wielders, and Minotaure is one of the Shadows originally used by the Seven Soldiers of Light. In the anime, Jiro first attempts to summon Minotaure during an early encounter with Shu, but the warrior Zola stops the summoning by placing the tip of her sword between the Shadow's horns.
Physically, Minotaure appears as a slim, dark blue bull humanoid. It has large black horns on its head, a black nose, and red eyes. Its build is notably slimmer compared to other Shadows such as Blue Dragon or Saber Tiger. The creature's coloration and horn shape give it a distinct, formidable appearance.
Personality-wise, Minotaure is calm and level-headed, often cautioning Jiro when he overuses his energy in battle. It generally takes a measured approach to opponents, contrasting with Jiro's occasional impulsiveness. This dynamic makes Minotaure a grounding presence for its wielder, frequently chiding him to conserve stamina and think strategically rather than charging recklessly.
As Jiro's Shadow, Minotaure's primary role in the story is to serve as his battle companion and protector. It participates in many key conflicts alongside Jiro and the other Shadow wielders, contributing its unique abilities to the group's efforts against various enemies. Minotaure's relationship with Jiro is central to its existence; the Shadow acts as both a partner and a voice of reason, helping Jiro grow more disciplined over the course of the series.
In terms of abilities, Minotaure is a powerful combatant capable of fighting with its fists and horns. Its attacks are predominantly electricity-based, and in the original video game it specializes in white magic. The Shadow's electrical attacks are among its most notable offensive tools, allowing it to deal significant damage to opponents. Throughout the anime, Minotaure demonstrates these powers in numerous battles, showing both strength and tactical awareness.
The development of Minotaure mirrors Jiro's own growth. As Jiro learns to control his energy and fight more wisely, the partnership between wielder and Shadow deepens. Minotaure remains a steady, reliable force, its calm demeanor helping Jiro mature into a more effective fighter.
