Description
Cynthia is a character who appears exclusively in the anime adaptation of Blue Dragon, serving as a memorable antagonist. She holds the rank of Captain within General Logi's Independent Flying Squadron, making her a dedicated soldier of the Gran Kingdom's forces. Physically, Cynthia is a young woman with long pink hair that she typically wears tied up in a ponytail with a gold band. She has blue eyes and her uniform consists of a white jacket bearing her personal insignia, worn over a purple tube top, paired with a white miniskirt.

Her personality is defined by an overwhelming vanity and a notoriously short temper. This trait is most famously displayed in her habit of constantly asking Gran Kingdom soldiers, "Who's the most beautiful girl in the world?" She becomes enraged if the answer is not herself, a behavior that draws a clear comparison to the vain Queen from the fairy tale of Snow White. This jealousy is directed primarily at Bouquet, a younger girl whom Cynthia perceives as a rival for the title of most beautiful. Upon learning that some soldiers considered Bouquet more attractive, Cynthia's fury drove her to personally seek out and attempt to eliminate her. She is also deeply sensitive about her age, reacting with extreme anger when characters like Minotaur or her rival Jiro refer to her as an "old lady."

In terms of motivations and role in the story, Cynthia is driven by a combination of duty to the Gran Kingdom and her personal vendettas. Beyond her hatred for Bouquet, she seems to harbor possible romantic feelings for her comrade Andropov, though her behavior often annoys him. She tries to gain his attention by seeking his help and proclaiming her love. Her primary role is that of a recurring adversary for the main protagonists, particularly for Jiro, with whom she shares a direct rivalry. She is featured in several significant battles, including an early encounter where General Logi orders a retreat, leading her to vow a future rematch with Jiro, and a later confrontation within a Gran Kingdom prison where she fights alongside Lemaire. Her personal obsession takes center stage in the episode Fading Beauty, where her jealousy leads to a fight that causes everyone to fall into Death Valley. Stranded, she must rely on Andropov to find an escape route, while Bouquet secretly follows her.

Cynthia undergoes a definitive and tragic development as the series builds toward its climax. When Zola's group plans to storm General Logi's airship, Cynthia is chosen as part of the first line of defense. To increase their power, she and the other defenders are given a Power Booster, a device that amplifies the strength of their shadows. In her final encounter against Shu, Jiro, Kluke, and Bouquet, she fights with ferocious determination. However, she pushes her Power Booster beyond its limits, causing it to overload. This catastrophic failure results in her defeat at the hands of Jiro and, ultimately, her death in episode twenty-six.

Cynthia's notable abilities are channeled through her shadow, which she names Yarovit. This creature has a pink, monstrous form and possesses a highly versatile fighting style based on elasticity and stretching. It can extend its limbs, transform them into tentacles for grappling or striking, and sprout additional tentacles from its back. For offensive maneuvers, Yarovit can curl its entire body into a dense ball to perform a charging ram called Impact Drive, slamming its opponent into solid objects. It can also unleash a flurry of attacks with the Thousand Stream Strike, which fires multiple tentacles from its back at an opponent.
