Description
Hauenkua serves as the Right General of the nation of Kunnekamun and primarily functions as an antagonist. In terms of appearance, he is a relatively tall and androgynous figure with pale skin and red eyes. He possesses long silver-blue hair tied back, with bangs covering the right side of his face. As one of the animal-eared demihumans of this world, he has light grey rabbit ears. He wears a black cassock with gold and red trim over a white robe, along with black moccasins and bandage wraps on his shins, and his right ear displays nine silver earrings. He pilots a distinctive red Abh-Kamu, a type of mechanized armor equipped with metal claws.
Hauenkua's personality is defined by cruelty and a hot-blooded nature. While he can appear merely arrogant and rude within the formal setting of Kuuya's court, his true character is that of a psychotic sadist who derives pleasure from killing and witnessing the misery of others. He possesses a sharp intelligence, particularly in manipulation and rhetoric, effectively twisting the words of his ruler, Kuuya, to make her appear weak and to manipulate her into waging war for his own amusement. Despite this cunning, his psychotic tendencies render him childish and lacking in common sense on the battlefield, as he often forgoes strategy for the simple opportunity to kill more people. This violent nature contrasts sharply with a profound cowardice; he is known to force others to fight on his behalf when a battle turns against him, as he harbors a paralyzing fear of his own death.
His primary motivation is not political ambition or loyalty, but the sheer enjoyment of violence and chaos. He exploits his position to instigate conflict, viewing war as a source of entertainment. In the story, he plays a key role in pushing Kunnekamun toward hostility, acting as a major obstacle for the protagonists. His key relationships are defined by manipulation and contempt. He shows great disrespect for Kuuya, treating her as a tool to be controlled rather than a sovereign to be served. His alliance with the mysterious figure Dii, who encourages his worst impulses, serves as another significant connection that enables his actions.
Throughout the narrative, Hauenkua's behavior demonstrates a consistent pattern of arrogance that collapses into utter panic when faced with genuine, overwhelming power. His development arc, if it can be called that, is a downward spiral where his cruelty ultimately leads to his own terrifying comeuppance. His defining moment occurs when he is confronted by the enraged god Uitsualnemetia; his previous swagger and sadism evaporate completely, reducing him to a sobbing, terrified wreck who flees for his life as his Abh-Kamu is destroyed. This breakdown cements his fate as a character whose vicious exterior masks a deep-seated and pathetic fear of death. His notable abilities lie in his skill as a mecha pilot, effectively commanding his red Abh-Kamu in battle, and his talent for psychological manipulation in a political context.
