Description
Kannei Kouha is a student of Nanyo Academy and a member of the school's most elite fighters, known as the Big Four. He serves as the successor to the ancient warrior Gan Ning. Physically, he is characterized by his short brown hair, tanned skin, and a stubbled jawline, typically dressed in an orange hoodie. His primary weapons are a pair of tonfa, which in some versions are said to conceal blades within them.
Before the events of the story, Kannei was known as a kind person who enjoyed fighting but was fundamentally unable to take a life. He is manipulated by his fellow student and Big Four member, the schemer Saji Genpou, who forces him to assassinate Enjutsu, the absent leader of Nanyo Academy. The trauma of committing this murder drives Kannei insane. His subsequent actions are heavily influenced by Saji, who uses hypnosis to make Kannei believe Enjutsu is still alive and to follow a series of violent orders. In this deranged state, his personality becomes characterized by an aggressive, animalistic, and suicidal ferocity, earning him descriptions that liken his behavior to that of a crazed animal.
Motivated by the false imperial orders fed to him by Saji, Kannei is tasked with eliminating the series' protagonist, Hakufu Sonsaku, who is seen as a threat. He pursues this goal with relentless violence. In combat, he initially overpowers Hakufu, demonstrating superior speed and skill, but he is ultimately stopped by her protector, Shimei Ryomou, who beats him unconscious with his own weapon. He remains a persistent antagonist, later ambushing Hakufu and her cousin Koukin Shuyu, breaking Koukin's arm during the fight before being driven off by a more powerful Hakufu. His role in the story is that of a tragic pawn and a formidable but unstable obstacle for the main characters to overcome, representing the manipulative and destructive schemes within Nanyo Academy.
