Description
Guame, often referred to as Guame the Immoveable, is one of the Four Supreme Generals serving the Spiral King, Lordgenome. He is the oldest of these four generals and specializes in ground combat. His physical appearance is a unique hybrid, combining features of a crocodile and an armadillo. According to supplementary material, Guame was originally an ordinary animal-like creature, similar to how Boota accompanies Simon, and has been at Lordgenome's side for an immense span of time, living nearly as long as the Spiral King himself.
In terms of personality, Guame stands apart from the other Beastmen generals. While most Beastmen revere Lordgenome as a god, Guame merely respects him as a long-standing partner, showing a more pragmatic and familiar attitude. He is characterized as having a perverted and lecherous nature, making snide and inappropriate comments about the relationships of his fellow generals, Thymilph and Adiane. His advanced age gives him a sense of superiority; he once referred to another general, Cytomander, as a pup of two hundred years, implying that such a length of time is insignificant to him. As a strategist, Guame is devious and calculating, preferring to use traps and psychological manipulation over direct confrontation.
Guame's primary motivation is to maintain the Spiral King's order and eliminate the human threat, Team Dai-Gurren. He does not display the fanatical devotion of his peers but acts out of a sense of duty and loyalty born from his ancient connection to Lordgenome. His role in the story is that of a cunning antagonist who uses his intellect to corner the protagonists. He first appears reporting the death of General Thymilph to the Spiral King. Later, he successfully captures the crew of the Dai-Gurren using a fake distress signal from a village used to supply consorts to the Spiral King. During this encounter, he has Nia brought before him, revealing his own theory on why the Spiral King abandoned her. He then propositions Nia, offering to spare her life if she agrees to lead this Beauty Village, a request she vehemently refuses.
Key relationships define Guame's position. His most significant connection is with Lordgenome, whom he has known since before he became the Spiral King, making him a unique confidant rather than a mere subordinate. His relationship with the other three generals is marked by a casual disrespect, as seen in his mocking comments towards Adiane and his dismissive attitude toward Cytomander's relative youth.
Guame undergoes little personal development, remaining a static antagonist throughout his appearance. However, he is instrumental in the development of the protagonist, Simon. By capturing Nia and putting her in danger, Guame inadvertently provides the catalyst for Simon to break free from his despair and regain his fighting spirit, leading to the rebirth of Gurren Lagann. In this confrontation, Simon personally destroys Guame's personal Gunmen, named Gember.
Guame's notable abilities center on his incredible defensive power and his mastery of ground-based warfare, which earn him the title the Immoveable. He commands a massive fortress known as the Dai-Gundo. In the final assault on the capital of Teppelin, he uses the fortress in conjunction with Teppelin's own power supply to generate a colossal defensive tornado intended to annihilate Team Dai-Gurren. He is also distinct from other Beastmen in that, due to his origins as a living creature with double-helix DNA, he is capable of utilizing Spiral Power, the very energy the Spiral King seeks to suppress. Ultimately, his plans are overturned when the Gurren Lagann tunnels underground, bypassing his defenses, and impales the Dai-Gundo from below, leading to his defeat and death in the subsequent explosion.
