Description
Hidetoshi Dekisugi, known as Ace Goody in select English adaptations, is a classmate of Nobita Nobi and a recurring presence in the Doraemon franchise, including the film Stand by Me Doraemon 2. His name translates to "brilliant over-achiever," mirroring his exceptional academic and athletic prowess; he consistently achieves perfect exam scores and excels in sports including baseball, soccer, and track. Dekisugi also demonstrates skill in artistic endeavors like painting and cooking, alongside proficiency in magic tricks and sleight of hand. Despite his wide-ranging talents, he maintains a modest, disciplined, and rational nature, avoiding arrogance and approaching situations with scientific reasoning while dismissing superstitions. His calm, responsible demeanor and good looks earn admiration from peers and teachers, though they also provoke envy, particularly from Nobita.

Dekisugi shares a respectful friendship with Shizuka Minamoto, frequently collaborating on homework or leisure activities such as reading, board games, and outdoor painting. Some media, including Stand by Me Doraemon 2, depict a future where he proposed to Shizuka, but she declined, feeling he would not need her support, reinforcing their platonic relationship despite Nobita's recurring jealousy. Dekisugi’s dynamic with Nobita is complex; Nobita often resents him due to Shizuka's friendship with Dekisugi and his own insecurities, leading to attempts to sabotage him using Doraemon’s gadgets. Nevertheless, Dekisugi consistently treats Nobita with kindness, defends him against bullying by classmates like Gian and Suneo, and emphasizes Nobita’s potential societal contributions beyond academics. He even secretly aids Shizuka in preparing birthday surprises for Nobita.

In Stand by Me Doraemon 2, Dekisugi appears as an adult during Nobita’s wedding timeline. He attends Nobita’s bachelor party and later, while working as an astronaut on the moon, sends a holographic congratulatory message to the wedding. His presence reinforces his established future career and enduring connection to Nobita’s friend group.

His personality remains consistent across media: levelheaded, forgiving, and ethically grounded. For instance, when the character Gariben targets him with pranks out of envy for being second best academically, Dekisugi responds by offering tutoring instead of retaliation. He shows little fascination with Doraemon’s futuristic gadgets, though he acknowledges their intriguing properties, aligning with his rational worldview. His frequently referenced future includes becoming an astronaut, marrying, and fathering a son named Hideyo.
