Description
Maximilion Pegasus, known in the English version as Maximillion Pegasus, is the charismatic and ingenious creator of the Duel Monsters card game, a role that positions him as one of the most influential figures in the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe. In Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Movie (Pyramid of Light), he appears as a former antagonist turned reluctant ally, offering crucial assistance to Yugi Muto in the battle against the ancient threat of Anubis. Pegasus possesses a sophisticated, cultured, and flamboyant personality; he carries himself with gentlemanly grace but often reveals a theatrical and eccentric demeanor, frequently addressing others with the affectionate suffix -boy. Beneath his polished exterior lie dark secrets, most notably the Millennium Eye that has replaced his left eye. This ancient Egyptian artifact grants him supernatural abilities, including the power to read minds, perceive hidden truths, and exert mental influence over others. Pegasus originally created Duel Monsters after discovering an ancient Egyptian game, and his deep understanding of the cards allows him to anticipate opponents' strategies with uncanny accuracy. In the movie, his motivation shifts from his earlier obsession with reviving his deceased wife Cecelia to a more altruistic concern for the world's safety, leading him to provide Yugi with a key card that counters the Pyramid of Light. His relationships with Yugi and Seto Kaiba are marked by a mix of rivalry and grudging respect; by this point in the timeline, he has shed his ruthless villainous facade and displays a more relaxed and helpful nature. Pegasus uses a Toon-based deck in the film, relying on direct attacks and the unique abilities of his whimsical monsters. His development from a manipulative antagonist to a supportive mentor figure highlights his complexity, as he blends eccentricity with genuine intelligence and a hidden sense of responsibility.
