Movie
Description
Maximilian Pegasus is the president of Industrial Illusions and the creator of the Duel Monsters card game. He originally conceived the game after studying ancient Egyptian shadow games, and he possesses a significant number of cards that have never been released to the public. Pegasus is sophisticated and cultured, presenting himself as a perfect gentleman, but he harbors many dark secrets. His left eye has been replaced with an ancient Egyptian artifact known as the Millennium Eye, which grants him the power to read minds and see an opponent's hand during a duel, as well as to influence their actions. He is also a master of shadow games.
Pegasus is characterized by an extravagant and theatrical personality. He speaks eloquently and often frames his actions in terms of art and creativity. His primary motivation throughout his life has been the desire to resurrect his lost love, Cyndia, a tragedy that led him to make morally ambiguous decisions, including kidnapping and soul manipulation. In the events of Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Movie (Pyramid of Light), Pegasus plays a supporting role. After the Battle City finals, Seto Kaiba approaches him seeking new cards capable of defeating the Egyptian God Cards. Pegasus agrees to duel Kaiba, and after losing, he gives up two specific cards, one of which has been secretly planted by the film's antagonist, Anubis. Later, as the duel between Kaiba and Yami Yugi spins out of control, Pegasus deduces the true nature of the threat and arrives by helicopter to rescue Tea Gardner, Solomon Muto, and Mokuba Kaiba. He also facilitates Tea's ability to send her soul into the Millennium Puzzle to help the trapped duelists.
Key relationships include his rivalry with Seto Kaiba, his past conflict with Yugi Muto from the Duelist Kingdom arc, and his eventual cooperative role in this story. His development sees a shift from a calculating antagonist to an individual who, although still eccentric, acts to aid the heroes when a greater danger emerges. Among his notable abilities are the psychic powers of the Millennium Eye, his expertise in shadow games, and his unique Toon-themed deck, which relies on the field spell Toon World to allow his monsters to attack directly.
