Description
Laio is a member of the legendary Zenon Warriors, a group of elite Vandel Busters regarded as the strongest on the continent. Within the team, he serves as the lead attacker and is widely recognized as the Master of Spears, a title that reflects his exceptional skill in the art of spearmanship, known as Sohjutsu. He has short blonde hair and black eyes.
Laio’s background is closely tied to the Zenon Warriors and their fateful battle against the powerful Vandel Beltorze, the King of Tragedy. Prior to that confrontation, Laio had developed a bond with the young Beet, who idolized the Zenon Warriors. Laio personally taught Beet the techniques of the spear, which became Beet’s preferred weapon style. Though Laio initially came across as annoyed by Beet’s persistent enthusiasm, he deeply cared for the boy and grew to admire Beet’s unwavering will and dream of becoming strong. He was amazed by how Beet transformed after becoming a Buster himself.
When Beltorze attacked, Beet interfered and was mortally wounded. To save Beet’s life, the Zenon Warriors sacrificed their own life force, sealing their souls into their Saiga mystical weapons and passing them to Beet. Laio’s Saiga, the Burning Lance, is a spear born from the Divine Power of Fire. It constantly radiates heat and can extend its length, even gaining a second spearhead at the opposite end. After inheriting this Saiga, Beet uses the Burning Lance more than any other weapon, reflecting the trust and mentorship Laio gave him.
Laio’s motivations are anchored in protecting others and upholding the warrior ideals of the Zenon Warriors. His role in the story is primarily as one of Beet’s mentors and as a fallen hero whose legacy directly empowers Beet’s journey. Later in the series, Laio reappears in a tragic state: he has been zombified and is now under the control of the seven-star Vandel Hystario. In this form, he attacks former allies, including Slade, forcing Beet and his friends to confront a distorted version of the person he once was.
Key relationships include his bond with Beet, whom he trained and genuinely cared for despite a gruff exterior, and his fellow Zenon Warriors Zenon, Alside, Cruss, and Bluezam with whom he fought as a cohesive unit. His development is largely defined by his sacrifice and the subsequent corruption of his body, which serves as a poignant reminder of the cost of the battle against the Vandels. Notable abilities include his unparalleled spear technique and the fiery Burning Lance, which made him a formidable front-line combatant against Vandels.
