TV-Series
Description
Amber is the first confirmed Contractor, designated with the Messier code UB-001. Her physical appearance is marked by long, pale green hair and distinctive amber-colored eyes. In the past, she was an agent of the British intelligence service MI6, where she used the codename February. She later defected from MI6, stealing valuable information related to the Gates, and joined the organization known as the Syndicate, adopting the name Amber.

Amber's background is deeply intertwined with the pivotal event known as Heaven's War in South America. During this conflict, she fought alongside the siblings Hei and Bai, becoming a trusted and valued comrade. At some point during this time, she developed strong romantic feelings for Hei. However, Amber and Bai uncovered the Syndicate's true, sinister plan, which involved the eventual destruction of all Contractors. Without informing Hei of the truth, they chose to act independently. Amber assisted Bai in using a Meteor Fragment to create the impenetrable barrier around Heaven's Gate, an act that led to Bai's disappearance and the apparent death of millions. This event caused Hei to view Amber as a traitor who had betrayed him and abandoned her mission, leading to a deep-seated grudge that he harbored for years.

Following the sealing of Heaven's Gate, Amber went into hiding. During this time, she gathered a large number of Contractors and formed her own organization, the Evening Primrose, to act against the Syndicate. As the leader of EPR, her primary motivation was to secure the future and right to exist for all Contractors. She sought to counter the Syndicate's plans, which would have resulted in the extinction of their kind, while also aiming to resolve the crisis posed by Hell's Gate in Tokyo without causing mass casualties among ordinary humans. Her methods were often extreme and involved intricate, long-term strategies that only she could fully perceive.

A crucial element of Amber's character is her ability, which is the power to manipulate time. She can stop time completely, rewind events to a previous state, and, through elaborate use of her power, effectively see into the future by retaining memories from timelines she has undone. This near-precognition allows her to orchestrate complex plans with knowledge of their outcomes. However, this incredible power comes with a unique and severe cost, known as a Contractor's remuneration or obeisance: each time she uses her ability, her physical age regresses by approximately two years. This means that as the series progresses and she employs her powers more frequently, she appears increasingly younger, transforming from a woman who was originally older than Hei into a child-like form.

Despite being a Contractor, who are typically defined by their cold, logical rationality, Amber displays a remarkable degree of emotion and kindness. She is often seen with a gentle smile and treats her subordinates in the Evening Primrose with care, inspiring fierce loyalty in return. Her most defining trait is her deep, unwavering love for Hei. Even though he despises her and considers her an enemy, she constantly goes out of her way to ensure his safety, often compromising her own missions to protect him. Her ultimate goal is not just to save the Contractors, but to show Hei the truth and grant him the future he deserves.

Amber's key relationships define the narrative. Her relationship with Hei is the emotional core of her story; she bears the burden of his hatred to save him, hoping he will eventually understand her actions. She also had a close partnership with Hei's sister, Bai, who was one of the few people to know the Syndicate's secret. Her relationship with her followers in the Evening Primrose, such as the loyal Amagiri, shows her as a capable and respected leader. In the story's climax, during the Tokyo Explosion incident, Amber initiates a plan to destroy the Saturn Ring particle accelerator inside Hell's Gate. When the plan fails and a catastrophic detonation seems inevitable, she uses the last of her power to reverse time, giving Hei a second chance to stop the disaster himself. Having exhausted her age through the repeated use of her ability, she fades away after a final, heartfelt farewell to Hei inside the Gate, finally achieving understanding and reconciliation with him in her last moments.
