Description
Myoga is a male flea demon who appears throughout the events of InuYasha: The Final Act. He was originally a loyal servant of Toga, the father of Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, and after Toga's death he became a servant and occasional advisor to Inuyasha. His background is tied to his former duty of guarding the location of the Tessaiga, the great sword that was hidden within the grave of Inuyasha's father. When Sesshomaru first sought the sword, Myoga fled rather than confront him, demonstrating a core trait of his personality.
Myoga's personality is defined by his timidity and strong instinct for self-preservation. He is quick to flee from danger and often appears only when it is relatively safe to do so. He can be long-winded and tends to provide information in a rambling manner, which often irritates Inuyasha. Despite his cowardice, he is genuinely loyal to Inuyasha and the group, and his motivation is to serve Inuyasha faithfully as he once served Toga, offering what help he can without putting himself in direct harm. He is also known for his habit of drinking the blood of others, which leads to him being frequently slapped or flicked away by Inuyasha and others, though his small size and immortality allow him to survive such treatment.
In the story, Myoga plays a supporting role as an informant and source of knowledge. He appears at key moments to provide the group with important information about enemies, locations, or the nature of the Shikon Jewel shards. He also occasionally offers advice on how to deal with various demonic threats. His most notable contribution in The Final Act is his ability to use his nature as a flea demon to draw out poison from someone's bloodstream, a skill that saves Inuyasha's life on at least one occasion. He does not participate in direct combat, as his physical abilities are minimal, but his knowledge of demon lore and history is often valuable.
Myoga's key relationships are with Inuyasha, whom he serves with a mixture of loyalty and fear, and with Toga, his former master who is long deceased. He also has some interactions with Totosai, the demon blacksmith, and with other members of Inuyasha's group, though his relationship with them is less developed. He generally avoids Sesshomaru, knowing that the full demon has little tolerance for him.
Development for Myoga in The Final Act is minimal. He remains essentially the same character throughout, maintaining his cowardly yet helpful nature. There is no major arc or change in his demeanor or role. He continues to appear sporadically, impart useful information, and then retreat from any serious danger. His presence serves as a link to the past and a reminder of Inuyasha's heritage.
Myoga's notable abilities include his small size, which allows him to hide easily and go unnoticed; his ability to suck blood and, more importantly, to extract venom or poison from a wound; his vast knowledge of demons, particularly those of significant power or history; and his apparent immortality, as he can be crushed or slapped without lasting harm. He also has the ability to appear and disappear at will, often arriving suddenly when least expected.
