Description
Illyasviel von Einzbern stands as the central protagonist of the *Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya* series. Created to function as the Holy Grail vessel for the Fourth Fuyuki Holy Grail War, she possessed innate magical knowledge programmed at birth. Her parents, Kiritsugu Emiya and Irisviel von Einzbern, abandoned the Grail War ritual when she was eight months old. They sealed her war memories and magical abilities, enabling her to live a normal childhood in Fuyuki City under the care of the homunculi maids Sella and Leysritt, alongside her adopted brother Shirou Emiya. This sealed aspect later manifested as a distinct personality, Kuro.

A ley line anomaly in Fuyuki during *Prisma Illya 2wei!* causes Illya to split into two entities. Her double, Kuro, embodies Illya's suppressed Grail conduit personality and memories. Kuro acts antagonistically at first, seeking to eliminate Illya to reclaim her existence. She wields the Archer-class card's powers and sustains her physical form through mana transfers, frequently involving kissing others. This fuels significant conflict as Kuro infiltrates Illya's school and targets Shirou.

Illya's character evolves through her encounters with Kuro. Initially reluctant to fight and yearning for normalcy, she confronts Kuro in a magical duel at their school, resulting in a stalemate born of shared pain. As Kuro's form destabilizes from mana depletion, Illya voluntarily shares her own mana, enabling Kuro's survival. This act leads to Kuro's acceptance into the Einzbern family as Illya's sister, with Irisviel formalizing her identity as Chloe von Einzbern. Their dynamic shifts from hostility to a sibling rivalry defined by comedic clashes and mutual dependence for mana.

Illya exhibits a cheerful, earnest personality but is easily flustered and initially hesitant in battle. Her magical abilities stem from her contract with the Kaleidostick Ruby, granting transformation sequences, flight, and barrier magic. She demonstrates significant combat growth, particularly when using Installations of Class Cards like Archer (dual-wielding Kanshou and Bakuya) or her high-risk Zwei Form—a fusion of the Ruby and Sapphire Kaleidosticks that temporarily boosts power at the cost of severe physical strain. Her determination to protect others solidifies during conflicts, such as defending Miyu from Kuro or uniting with her against the mercenary Bazett.

Key relationships define her development: her protective friendship with Miyu Edelfelt; her complex bond with Chloe, balancing affection and rivalry; and her unspoken concern for Shirou. She displays a fascination with maid outfits and a covertly competitive streak, evident in attempts to outperform Chloe in cooking contests. Her journey continues into later arcs, confronting parallel-world threats to rescue Miyu and reinforcing her resolve to save everyone without sacrifice.
