Description
Rapier is a female elf and an accomplished fighter who appears in the first season of the anime Those Who Hunt Elves. She is portrayed as a kick boxer who has dedicated herself to combat and has proven herself against many opponents. In terms of appearance, she has blue hair, cyan eyes, and the pointed ears typical of elves, and she is often shown with her hair tied back in a ponytail.
Her defining trait is a curse placed upon her. The curse marks her back with the numbers of the rivals she has defeated, and the markings will not disappear until she has beaten one thousand opponents in a row. Because of this, her central motivation is to keep winning fights until she reaches the thousandth victory. This goal drives her to seek out increasingly capable challengers, and she eventually chooses Junpei, one of the series' main travelers, as her intended one thousandth opponent.
Rapier had a late teacher, a master who trained her in martial arts and tried to pass on a particular philosophy about fighting, often described as the true way of the fist. In her single-minded pursuit of victory and the removal of her curse, she had refused to accept that lesson. Her role in the story is that of a formidable one-on-one rival, as she confronts Junpei in a duel built around her quest for the thousandth win.
Her encounter with Junpei becomes the turning point for her character. Rather than achieving the straightforward victory she expected, she comes to understand the meaning of what her late master had tried to teach her, and this realization is what lifts the curse. She is freed from it not by completing her kill or victory count, but by finally grasping the deeper purpose behind her martial training. In the aftermath, she expresses gratitude both to her departed teacher and to Junpei for helping release her from the spell. Her abilities lie primarily in unarmed combat and kickboxing, and she is strong and skilled enough to have accumulated nearly one thousand consecutive victories before meeting Junpei, which marks her as one of the more dangerous individual fighters the main characters encounter.
