Description
Kagari Izuriha, whose counterpart in the other world is known as Chariot, is a central figure whose journey is marked by deep emotional trauma and a gradual path toward healing. She is a girl of about thirteen years with a delicate appearance, characterized by long, messy, light blonde hair that reaches her hips and striking golden eyes. Initially, she is always seen in a white nightgown, confined to a wheelchair and seemingly unable to walk, living within the home of her childhood friend, Yomi Takanashi.

The origin of her condition is rooted in a painful childhood memory. As young children, Kagari and Yomi were inseparable. When Yomi had to move overseas for a few years due to her father's work, a distraught Kagari chased after the departing car and was hit by a vehicle. Although doctors found no physical damage to her legs, the psychological shock was so profound that she became unable to walk, making her disability a psychosomatic manifestation of her emotional devastation and an intense fear of being abandoned.

This trauma fostered an extremely obsessive and possessive personality, particularly toward Yomi. Kagari views Yomi not just as a friend, but as belonging to her, frequently declaring that Yomi is hers and demanding that she take responsibility for what happened. Her fear of the outside world and of losing Yomi again leads her to exert total control over Yomi’s social life. She forbids Yomi from making any other friends and actively sabotages her burgeoning friendship with Mato Kuroi. When Mato visits, Kagari is openly hostile, offering her what she calls dirty-colored macarons, speaking through her doll named Mary to coldly tell Mato to leave, and giving her an intentionally ugly doll as a gift. Her methods can be manipulative and extreme; she once carved a heart-shaped scar on her own chest with a crochet needle and later threw herself down a flight of stairs, all to ensure Yomi remained bound to her by guilt. Her love for colorful macarons serves as a subtle, symbolic way for her to express her emotions, with different colors representing her feelings about the people around her.

In the otherworld, her emotional reality is reflected in her other self, Chariot. Chariot is a formidable and cold figure who rides a massive, spider-like vehicle named Mary, using it to charge at foes and fire giant macaron-shaped projectiles. In direct combat, Chariot wields a long sword and a large wheel-shaped shield that can sprout deadly steel needles, with her own legs forming sharp, mobile wheels. Her appearance in the otherworld symbolizes her possessive grip on Yomi, often depicted with chains binding Yomi’s counterpart, Dead Master, to represent how Kagari's emotional hold traps her friend. Her defeat at the hands of Black Rock Shooter, who beheads Chariot, is the catalyst for immense change in the real world.

The death of Chariot directly corresponds to a dramatic shift in Kagari’s psyche. She loses the obsessive memories and painful emotions that bound her to the wheelchair. She suddenly stands up and walks again, her psychological block removed along with her counterpart. This marks a profound development where she begins attending school, where her sharp-tongued and bluntly honest nature is unexpectedly perceived as charming and cute, quickly making her popular and surrounded by new friends. She joins the cooking club to pursue an interest in making sweets, gaining independence from Yomi and even stating her intention to repay Yomi for everything she had done. However, this transformation comes at a great cost: she also loses the memory of her deep, emotionally complex history with Yomi, remembering only that Yomi took care of her.

In the final resolution, when Yomi’s memories and feelings are restored, Chariot is resurrected in the otherworld. This revival restores Kagari’s memories of her genuine affection for Yomi, leading her to declare that she truly does love Yomi after all. This allows her to achieve a balanced state, retaining both her new, healthy, and independent life at school alongside her restored, cherished bond with Yomi, finally becoming true friends with her, Mato, and Yuu Koutari. In the otherworld, Chariot also returns to aid Black Rock Shooter, and her abilities as an other self include superhuman physical prowess, the capacity to maintain a personal pocket realm, and a form of immortality tied to her existence in the real world.
