TV-Series
Description
Soichi Jonouchi, often called by his nickname Jo, is a recurring secondary character in the series. He is a student at Kitahoro High School and shares a classroom with the main characters, Sawako Kuronuma and Shouta Kazehaya.
In terms of background, Jo is a typical high school boy of about fifteen years of age. His classmates and even his own parents describe him as being somewhat foolish or simple-minded, a trait he displays openly. He is easily swayed by the people around him and often fails to grasp the subtleties of a situation, which leads him to act without thinking. This impulsive nature is a defining part of his personality; he tends to get excited quickly and goes along with the flow, often acting as a class clown who loves to joke around.
His primary motivation seems to be a desire for social connection and romance, though his efforts in the latter are frequently unsuccessful. He is very attached to his popular and friendly classmate, Kazehaya. This strong attachment often manifests as Jo unintentionally interrupting private or significant conversations between Kazehaya and Sawako, much to their chagrin. Another key motivation for him is his pursuit of romantic relationships. He is known to fall for various girls easily, but his confessions are consistently rejected, leading to a string of bad luck in love. Despite these frequent rejections, he does not remain sad for long and quickly shifts his attention to someone new.
Jo's role in the story is primarily that of comic relief and a supporting friend within the larger group. He is part of the circle of friends that includes Kazehaya, Ryu Sanada, Chizuru Yoshida, and Ayane Yano. While he generally appears in the background of scenes, his actions and obliviousness often add a lighthearted and lively energy to the classroom. His key relationships are mostly defined by his friendship with Kazehaya, whom he greatly admires and follows around, and his eventual romantic interest in Ayane Yano after learning she has broken up with her boyfriend.
There is a notable, though limited, development in his romantic pursuits. Early on, he experiences the pain of being rejected by a girl he liked and is comforted by Kazehaya. Later in the story, after hearing about Ayane Yano's breakup, he shifts his romantic attention toward her. This shows a recurring pattern of him being guided by the latest news regarding the romantic status of the girls around him. As for notable abilities, Jo does not possess any special skills. His most prominent trait is his unwavering cheerfulness and ability to quickly bounce back from social or romantic setbacks, making him a persistent and energetic, if slightly oblivious, presence among his friends.
