Description
Disemboweled Tiger, known in Japanese as Harakiri Tora, is a character from the anime and light novel series Kämpfer, where it serves as a Messenger. Messengers are the primary assistants to those chosen to become Kämpfer, tasked with explaining the rules and mechanisms of the Kämpfer combat they are forced to participate in. They take the form of Entrails Animals, a line of stuffed toys distinguished by their macabre designs, which feature exposed intestines and names referencing different methods of death.

In keeping with this theme, Disemboweled Tiger appears as a plush tiger that has been violently stabbed and scarred. Its design includes an eye patch and blood oozing from its mouth, creating a deliberately grotesque appearance that contrasts with its role as a guide. Despite its frightening look, the character possesses a surprisingly mundane and relatable personality. In one instance, it expresses a preference for watching the long-running family anime Sazae-san, a detail that adds a layer of gentle, almost humorous normalcy to its otherwise sinister exterior.

Disemboweled Tiger is the Messenger assigned to Natsuru Senō, the protagonist of the series. It is the talking stuffed tiger that awakens Natsuru one morning, informing him that he has been chosen to become a Kämpfer, a female fighter, and that he must battle other Kämpfers who are not on his team. The tiger’s primary role in the story is to serve as an initial source of exposition and guidance for Natsuru, helping him understand his new, unwanted abilities and responsibilities as a member of the Blue Kämpfer faction. As a Messenger, it acts as a neutral party focused on facilitating the Kämpfer conflicts rather than directly participating in them.

Within the group of Messengers, Disemboweled Tiger is part of a small ensemble of five major Entrails Animals, each serving a different main Kämpfer. It is specifically noted to be on good terms with Black Seppuku Rabbit, the foul-mouthed Messenger for Akane Mishima. This relationship suggests a functional camaraderie among the Messengers, even as their human charges are often in conflict. As a supporting character without personal ambitions or a narrative arc of its own, Disemboweled Tiger does not undergo any significant development or change throughout the series; its function remains consistent from its first appearance.

In terms of abilities, Disemboweled Tiger’s main function is its role as a communicator and an advisor, possessing knowledge about the Kämpfer system that it imparts to Natsuru. It has no demonstrated combat abilities and relies on its Kämpfer for protection and action. Its most notable power is its ability to speak and interact with its owner, which is a trait common to all Messengers. The character is a physical stuffed animal that can be held, carried, and positioned, and it remains in this inanimate plush form when not actively communicating with its Kämpfer.
