Description
Ryou Shishido is a third-year middle school student at Hyotei Academy, born September 29th under the Libra sign. He stands 172 cm tall in The Prince of Tennis, increasing to 173 cm in The New Prince of Tennis, with a consistent weight of 60 kg and blood type B. He possesses brown eyes and initially sported long brown hair tied back. After losing to Kippei Tachibana in the Tokyo Prefectural quarterfinals, he cut his hair short as a symbol of dedication to reclaiming his regular spot on the tennis team. He often wears a blue cap backwards during matches and has a band-aid above his left eyebrow.
Shishido intensely dislikes losing, frequently voicing disdain with "super lame." He demonstrates fierce determination and work ethic, rebuilding his tennis skills through rigorous training after setbacks. Initially disrespectful towards Hyotei's captain Keigo Atobe, Shishido developed admiration and loyalty after recognizing Atobe's strength. His closest bond is with doubles partner Choutarou Ootori, whom he mentors and supports. Shishido values self-improvement, openly acknowledges his limitations, and focuses on growth over natural talent. He maintains relationships with childhood friends like Gakuto Mukahi and shows responsibility towards juniors, such as supervising Wakashi Hiyoshi's training.
Shishido entered Hyotei Middle School alongside Mukahi and Jirou Akutagawa. He initially opposed Atobe's leadership but accepted it after losing a 2-vs-1 match against him. As a regular player specializing in speed-based returns, he earned the nickname "Dash Specialist." Defeat by Tachibana cost him his regular position, prompting him to reinvent his playstyle through intensive training with Ootori. He developed the "Rising Counter" technique—hitting the ball immediately after the bounce—and regained his regular spot by defeating Taki Haginosuke.
In doubles with Ootori, Shishido achieved victories, including against Seigaku's Golden Pair (Eiji Kikumaru and Shuichiro Oishi) during the Nationals quarterfinals. His playstyle evolved from singles-focused to counter-punching doubles specialist, utilizing formations like the Australian formation. Post-Nationals, he received an invitation to the U-17 Training Camp. Partnered with Ootori in an elimination tie-break, they lost 9-7. This relegated Shishido to special mountain training under the "Drunken Coach," involving tasks like eagle balloon evasion and forest running. After completing this training, he advanced to Court 2.
At the U-17 Camp, Shishido mediated conflicts between Kaoru Kaido and Momoshiro Takeshi, gifted a pillow to Kikumaru during a pillow fight, and joined the revolution corps occupying courts. He later traveled to Australia by ship as part of the U-17 World Cup support group, teaching tennis to a local boy there. His daily routine includes rigorous training, walking his dog Cheese, household chores, and academic responsibilities. He spends his allowance on CDs, magazines, and treating juniors to snacks.
Shishido's family includes his grandmother, parents, an older brother, and his dog Cheese. His father is an elementary school teacher. His hobbies are billiards and pen spinning. He prefers cheese sandwiches, mint gum, red and purple colors, Western rock music, and dog parks. He frequently visits school stores and infirmaries, excels in geography and history, but struggles with geometry. He saves money through household chores and desires Comme Ca brand shirts.
