Description
Laki Olietta is a mage of the Fairy Tail guild who has been a member since childhood, residing in the guild’s dormitory building known as Fairy Hills. She is a slim young woman of average height with straight, pale lavender hair that she often wears in a bowl-cut style, later changing to longer, wavier hair after a seven-year time skip. She has brown eyes and always wears a pair of simple oval-lensed glasses, which she likes and wears by choice. A large, dark-colored ribbon adorns her head, and after the time skip it marks where she ties her hair into a long ponytail.
Laki’s personality is marked by a distinctive and unconventional way of speaking. She refers to common activities with unusual phrasing, such as calling a haircut “chopping hair,” eating as “feeding your stomach,” and sleeping as “whittling away the defenseless hours.” She also has an unconventional method of naming and casting her spells, often combining random wooden tools and appendages. Laki has a strong dislike for perverts and is protective of her friends in this regard. She displays a slightly sadistic side, as she keeps a large collection of torture devices in her room, presumably made using her magic.
Her motivations center around supporting her guild and protecting her fellow mages. She is a loyal and longstanding member, helping to rebuild the guild hall after it was vandalized by the Phantom Lord guild, using her wood-based magic to create the necessary structures. She is deeply affected when many of her comrades go missing during the Tenrou Island incident, and she remains with the diminished guild during the seven-year period, waiting for their return and feeling nostalgia when seeing old drawings of them.
Laki’s role in the story is that of a supporting mage. She participates in battles during guild conflicts and often assists with chores and reconstruction. She is seen fighting against Phantom Lord members, taking part in the battle for the Fairy Tail rebuilding effort, and engaging in the Miss Fairy Tail contest. She also helps defend the town from threats like the lizard creatures controlled by Daphne. After the seven-year time skip, she continues to be a reliable presence in the guild.
Key relationships include her close friendship with Kinana, with whom she is often seen talking and whom she protects from flirtatious men. She interacts with other guild members such as Droy, Jet, and Miki, sometimes engaging in lighthearted arguments. She also shows concern for her missing comrades like Levy, Natsu, and Erza.
Her development is primarily reflected in her appearance and her continued dedication to Fairy Tail through difficult times. While her personality remains consistent, her loyalty and emotional investment in the guild deepen, as seen when she tears up at reminders of absent friends.
Laki specializes in Wood-Make Magic, a form of Maker Magic that allows her to create and manipulate wood at will. She can instantly reshape wood into any form she chooses, making her useful for both construction and combat. Her offensive spells include The Dam of Bashful Love, which summons multiple blocks of wood shaped like tools and weapons that erupt from the ground; The Distance Between The Two Is Forever, which creates giant wooden feet that sway wildly to damage enemies; and a spell that produces a massive spiked ball of wood shot at high speed. She also uses defensive spells such as Heart’s Sense of Distance, which forms a barrier of wooden blocks to prevent enemies from approaching. Additionally, she can merge herself and others into wood to move through it freely, and she can create a giant wooden fist to strike opponents. Laki’s magic is versatile, serving both practical guild needs and combat situations.
