Description
Polyussica, also spelled Porlyusica, is a supporting character in the anime and manga Fairy Tail. She is a tall, slim elderly woman with pink hair tied in a bun held by two crescent moon shaped pins, reddish eyes, and a beauty mark below her mouth. She lives alone in a treehouse in the East Forest outside the town of Magnolia, where the guild Fairy Tail is based, and serves as the guild's medicinal advisor and pharmacist.

Her background is unusual. She was born in the parallel world of Edolas and is the counterpart of Grandeeney, the Sky Dragon who raised and trained the Dragon Slayer Wendy Marvell. Decades before the main story, she was accidentally transported to Earth Land, where the Fairy Tail guild master Makarov Dreyar helped her settle. She became fascinated with her new world and chose to stay permanently, turning down every opportunity to return home. She once belonged to Fairy Tail and fought alongside Makarov, Yajima, Goldmine, Bob, and Rob, but she later left the guild and adopted a solitary life in the forest, though she remained connected to Fairy Tail as its healer.

Personality wise, Polyussica is calm, collected, and responsible, with deep knowledge of medicine and magic. She is also reclusive and openly misanthropic. Despite being human herself, she dislikes humans and dismisses them as simpletons who rely on fighting to solve their problems. This attitude often comes across in a comedic way, such as chasing unwanted visitors away with a broom or scolding them for lingering too long. Beneath her gruff exterior, however, she is dependable and genuinely concerned for the people she treats, especially the members of Fairy Tail.

Her main motivation is her duty as a healer and the promise she made to Grandeeney. When the Sky Dragon was separated from her foster daughter Wendy, she entrusted Polyussica with the secret Sky Dragon Slayer spells she had not been able to teach the girl and asked her to pass them on if their paths ever crossed. Polyussica keeps that promise years later, recognizing the connection when Wendy visits her and notices her resemblance to Grandeeney.

In the story, Polyussica appears at important moments as a medical specialist. She treats Makarov after he is drained of his magic power during the guild's conflict with Phantom Lord and saves his life again during the Battle of Fairy Tail, when his condition becomes critical. She also treats Erza Scarlet, creating a magical artificial eye to replace the one Erza lost during her captivity in the Tower of Heaven. During the Grand Magic Games, she cares for Wendy after the young Dragon Slayer collapses from magic power deficiency, working to cure her before the main event.

Her notable abilities are entirely tied to healing and medicine. She is regarded as an incredibly skilled medical specialist, sometimes called the Healing Mage, particularly when dealing with wounds caused by magic. She prepares medicines and potions from herbs she gathers and stores in her home, including a restorative solution that can bring back depleted magic power. The artificial eye she crafted for Erza is a magical object that can absorb the brunt of certain static magical attacks, such as petrification, and can negate visual illusions.

Her key relationships center on Fairy Tail. She has a long history with Makarov, who helped her when she first arrived in Earth Land and with whom she shares a past as a fellow guild member. She is emotionally attached to him despite her irritable manner and is visibly shaken when his life is in danger. With Wendy, she acts as a stand-in mentor, fulfilling Grandeeney's request and teaching her the Sky Dragon Slayer techniques; Wendy affectionately calls her Grandeeney, which softens her attitude. She also has meaningful interactions with Mystogan, recognizing him as the one who restored Makarov's magic power, and with Erza, whom she treats with professional care.

Over the course of the series, Polyussica develops from a distant, antisocial hermit into someone who more openly shows her loyalty and warmth. Her decision to honor Grandeeney's request, her emotional reaction to Makarov's near death, and her gentle farewell after teaching Wendy all reveal a compassionate side that she usually keeps hidden behind sarcasm and grumbling.
