Description
Alya is a character from the Phantom Lord guild, serving as one of its four elite S-Class Mages known as the Element 4. He is specifically the wizard representing the element of air and is considered the most powerful member of this group. Alya plays the role of a primary antagonist during the story arc focused on the conflict between Phantom Lord and the Fairy Tail guild.

In terms of background, Alya is a tall man with a distinctive and somber appearance. He wears a green top hat and a long green robe over a purple garment and a yellow shirt. He also wears a white bandage over his eyes, which serves to suppress his immense magical power, and a necklace adorned with small crosses and a central skull motif.

Alya's personality is highly contradictory and is defined by a deep sense of melancholy. He is prone to weeping frequently, even when a plan is executed successfully. He becomes sad simply by speaking of despair, yet in combat, he reveals a cruel and sometimes arrogant side, having used his magic to kill people. Despite these emotional extremes, he is shown to be fiercely loyal to his guild master, Jose Porla, and to Phantom Lord itself.

His primary motivation throughout the Phantom Lord arc is to serve his guild and his master. He is a key instrument in Jose's plan to destroy Fairy Tail and capture the celestial spirit mage Lucy Heartfilia. Alya demonstrates a high level of confidence in his own abilities, considering masters Makarov Dreyar and Erza Scarlet to be powerful mages, yet he does not hesitate to attack them from a position of surprise.

Within the story, Alya has several significant interactions. He shows respect for the power of Makarov and Erza, but his actions against them are antagonistic. He ambushes Makarov, using his draining magic to nearly kill the Fairy Tail master. He also dominates a fight against Natsu Dragneel, overwhelming the fire dragon slayer with his invisible air attacks. His battle with Erza is particularly notable; after removing his eyepatch to unleash his full power, he is defeated by her in a single strike. He also has a brief interaction with his guild mate, Gajeel Redfox, discussing their mission to capture Lucy.

Alya’s role in the narrative is largely contained to this single conflict. His development is limited, as he serves as a formidable obstacle for the heroes to overcome. He does not undergo a significant personal transformation, remaining a loyal and powerful enforcer for Phantom Lord until his guild’s defeat. After Jose is defeated by Makarov, Alya makes one final, unsuccessful attempt to attack the Fairy Tail master from behind but is easily swatted away.

Alya’s notable abilities are derived from his Air Space magic. This power allows him to manipulate the air in various ways. He can create invisible attacks such as Field Pressure, which sends out unseen spheres to assault opponents. His most dangerous technique is Metsu, which drains the magical power of his target, sending it into the void; this ability nearly killed Makarov. By removing his eyepatch, Alya can invoke Zero, a death space that absorbs all life in his vicinity. He also possesses the ability to teleport himself and others over short distances using Air Teleportation.
