Description
Bakel is a minor antagonist from the final arc of the Fairy Tail series, serving as a soldier within the Ajeel Squad of the Alvarez Empire's Imperial Army. He holds the rank of captain, commanding one of the ships under the command of the Spriggan 12 member Ajeel Ramal during the empire's large-scale invasion of the Kingdom of Fiore.

In terms of appearance, Bakel is a tall and muscular man with dark skin and messy dark hair. He has distinctive scarring on his right cheek, as well as unique markings around his mouth. His most notable features are the striped scarves he wears; one covers his eyes and ears, while another is wrapped around his neck. He typically fights without a shirt, sporting a large eye tattoo on his chest, and wears dark arm warmers with light gloves, dark pants, and a striped sash.

Personality wise, Bakel is depicted as a remarkably laid-back individual, even in the midst of battle. He shows little concern for the challenges facing his subordinates, casually laughing off their questions about how to breach defensive magical barriers. During his confrontation with Natsu Dragneel, he maintains this relaxed demeanor, complimenting the Dragon Slayer on his scarf while they fight. This casual attitude extends to his combat style, as he appears unfazed even when pushed back by powerful attacks.

Bakel's role in the story is confined to the Alvarez Empire arc, specifically during the battle for the town of Magnolia. He is first seen ordering his troops to advance on the town from their airship. When confronted by the Flying Dragon Squad consisting of Natsu, Gajeel, and Wendy, most of his soldiers are quickly defeated. Bakel proves to be a more formidable obstacle, demonstrating the ability to deflect Natsu's Fire Dragon Claw attack back at him. The two engage in a brief clash, with Bakel showing surprising resilience against the Dragon Slayer's explosive punches. Although he is knocked down during the initial exchange, he gets back up and attempts to crush Natsu. Ultimately, Natsu delivers a powerful uppercut that sends Bakel flying high into the air, causing him to crash through the airship where Ajeel is engaged in battle with Erza Scarlet.

Regarding his key relationships, Bakel serves as a direct subordinate to Ajeel Ramal, one of the twelve Spriggan 12, the empire's most powerful mages. He also commands a unit of unnamed Alvarez soldiers who look to him for leadership. His primary opponent is Natsu Dragneel, the main protagonist of the series, and their confrontation serves to showcase Bakel's physical abilities before his defeat.

In terms of character development, Bakel receives very little as he is a minor antagonist with limited screen time. He does not undergo any significant change or growth throughout his brief appearance, remaining consistently laid-back from his introduction to his defeat.

Bakel's notable abilities center entirely on his immense physical strength. Unlike many characters in the Fairy Tail universe who rely on magic, his prowess is noted by his subordinates to lie solely in his physical power. He is capable of generating enough air pressure from a simple sweep of his arms to unbalance an opponent of Natsu's caliber and deflect high-speed attacks. He possesses significant durability as well, enduring several direct hits from Natsu before finally being defeated. No magical abilities are attributed to Bakel, making him a purely physical combatant. The Japanese writing of his name, Bakeru, relates to a word meaning to change shape, commonly referring to supernatural shape-shifters in Japanese folklore.
