Description
Bora is a former mage of the Titan Nose Guild and serves as the first antagonist encountered in the story. After being expelled from his guild for using magic to aid in thievery, he formed his own criminal gang and continued his illicit activities. Operating under the false identity of Salamander, he became known by the epithet Bora of Prominence. His primary profession is that of a female slave trader, using deceptive tactics to kidnap women and sell them into slavery in foreign countries such as Bosco.

Bora presents a stark contrast between his public facade and his true nature. Outwardly, he adopts the persona of a kind, benevolent, and chivalrous mage, dressing in ornate clothing that includes a high-collared purple cape and sporting a distinctive dark tattoo above his right eye. Beneath this disguise, he is a cold-hearted, pompous, and cruel individual. Lucy Heartfilia tearfully describes him as the worst mage ever due to his willingness to abuse magic for personal profit and his utter lack of remorse for selling people into slavery. He is shown to be proud and enjoys showing off his magical abilities, while also holding disdain for the magic of others, as seen when he callously throws Lucy's celestial spirit keys into the ocean. His cruelty is further demonstrated by his attempt to brand Lucy with a slave mark before being stopped.

Bora's primary motivation is profit through illegal means, specifically the abduction and sale of young women. He is also driven by a desire for recognition and fame, which is why he steals the title of Salamander, a name belonging to the famous Fire Dragon Slayer of Fairy Tail. He becomes upset when others do not acknowledge him by this stolen epithet, revealing a fragile ego beneath his villainous bravado.

In the story, Bora plays the crucial role of the first adversary. He appears in the port town of Hargeon, where he uses his Charm Magic to attract a crowd of young women to a party on his yacht. He encounters Lucy Heartfilia, who wishes to join Fairy Tail, and pretends to be a member of that guild to lure her aboard. After revealing his true plan to sell her and the other charmed girls into slavery, he is confronted and soundly defeated by Natsu Dragneel, the real Salamander of Fairy Tail. Following his defeat, he is left for the Rune Knights to arrest.

Bora has a few notable relationships. He was once the boyfriend of Juvia Lockser, but he ended the relationship because he grew annoyed with the constant rain that follows her. This past relationship is later shown in a flashback from Juvia's memories. In later, less significant appearances, such as watching a guild play or the Fantasia Parade, he is seen in the company of other minor former villains like Boze and Sue, suggesting a less hostile, more neutral or even friendly association with them after his initial criminal career is halted.

Bora demonstrates a range of magical abilities. He is proficient in Fire Magic, which he uses both for transportation with a technique called Red Carpet, where he stands on a flexible column of flame, and for offensive attacks. His offensive fire spells include Prominence Whip, Prominence Typhoon, Red Shower, Hell Prominence, and a technique where he hurls a large fireball shaped like a skull. Despite the visual flair of his fire magic, its power is questionable, as Natsu Dragneel consumes his flames and comments that they are the most awful he has ever tasted. Bora also utilizes several types of illegal magic. His primary tool for luring victims is Charm Magic, which he channels through a ring to make women fall under his spell, indicated by heart shapes appearing in their eyes. This magic loses its effect if the target becomes aware they are being manipulated. He also employs Sleep Magic, another illegal form, through a ring to render his victims unconscious for kidnapping. Additionally, Bora has demonstrated the ability to use Telekinesis for minor feats, such as levitating drops of wine.
