Description
Mindy Asuka is a main character introduced in the third season of Ojamajo Doremi, continuing as a prominent figure in Ojamajo Doremi DOKKAAN!. Originally born in Japan as Momoko Asuka, she moved to the United States at a young age due to her father's job as an architect and her mother's work as a photographer, losing her ability to speak Japanese. She is sent by the Witch Queen to help Doremi Harukaze and her friends run their new sweet shop, Maho-do, bringing with her a background in baking. Her personality is loud, hyper, and sometimes blunt, but she is also deeply passionate and emotional, quick to express joy, sadness, or empathy. She is not afraid to speak up for others and can be very protective of the things and people she cares about, such as a precious earring given to her by her former mentor.

Mindy became a witch apprentice at age eight under the tutelage of the witch Majo Monroe. After Majo Monroe fell ill and died, Mindy attempted to use forbidden magic to revive her, which failed and caused her to lose her witch powers. In the events of the series, she is given a second chance to become a full witch. Throughout DOKKAAN!, her Japanese language skills improve thanks to her friends teaching her, though she sometimes interjects with English words. Her role in the story is as a transfer student and a new member of the witch apprentice group, bringing expertise in baking and a fresh, energetic dynamic. She forms a particularly close bond with Doremi, as both are energetic and expressive, and over time she becomes close with Hazuki, Aiko, Onpu, and Hana as well. Her primary motivation is to pass the witch apprentice exams and eventually open her own pastry shop, a dream that remains with her. She also develops from a somewhat insecure, language-barrier-challenged newcomer into a confident and valued friend, helping the group overcome various magical challenges. Her notable abilities include proficiency in baking and sweets-making, as well as her magical transformations and stage performances, which she uses to aid in solving problems and breaking curses.
