Description
Alexander T. Oyajide, also known by the full name Alexander Tagosaku Oyajide, is a wizard whose long history with the Ojamajo girls begins long before the events of Ojamajo Doremi DOKKAAN!. Initially encountered as a wizard trapped within a magical computer, he was freed by Doremi and her friends. In the second season, Ojamajo Doremi Sharp, he served as a primary antagonist, tasked with kidnapping the baby witch Hana for the King of the Wizard World, a mission he undertook in hopes of being promoted to a baron. Following these events, he began a path of atonement, which by the time of DOKKAAN! has led him to work at the Witch World Kindergarten.
In terms of personality, Oyajide is a complex figure with many contradictory traits. He is often a comedic character, serving as a frequent butt of jokes and enduring a great deal of humiliation, particularly from the strict Majo Miller. He has a notable and often-inappropriate interest in young women, with a particularly intense and enduring fandom for the idol Onpu Segawa, of whom he is a devoted fan club member. Despite this, he consistently demonstrates a genuine and natural ability with children, showing patience and kindness towards them, which is a key aspect of his later development. While often clumsy and ineffectual, he is also a capable and powerful wizard who can become serious and dangerous when the situation truly demands it. His defining trait is a fundamental niceness that persists even when he is playing the role of a villain.
Oyajide's primary motivation throughout his time in the Witch World evolves significantly. Initially driven by ambition and a desire for status, his experiences, particularly his bond with Hana, lead him toward genuine redemption and a desire to make amends. By the time of DOKKAAN!, his main goal is to become a certified kindergarten teacher, a path he pursues with dedication. His role in the story shifts from that of a formidable antagonist to a supporting character and a paternal figure. He becomes a regular presence at the kindergarten, helping to care for Hana and the other magical children. He temporarily aligns with the FLAT4, a group of young wizards, forming the FLOAT5, though his allegiance is no longer villainous.
His most significant relationship is with Hana-chan. Despite his initial attempts to kidnap her, he becomes a trusted and beloved caretaker, almost serving as a father figure to her. Hana, in turn, recognizes him easily and trusts him deeply. He also maintains a long-standing, if one-sided, admiration for Onpu, and a consistently strained and fearful relationship with the stern Majo Miller, who often punishes him. His relationships with the Ojamajo girls, whom he once fought, are mended over time, and they come to accept him as an ally.
Throughout the series, Oyajide undergoes a significant character arc. He transitions from a self-serving villain to an atoner, and finally to a devoted and comedic caretaker. A pivotal moment in DOKKAAN! showcases his growth when he is given a choice during his kindergarten teacher exam: to follow the rules or use magic to save Hana. He chooses to save Hana, sacrificing his chance to pass the exam, an act that solidifies his redemption. His development continues after the events of the anime, as in later light novels he is shown to have become the director of a wizard preschool.
As a wizard, Oyajide possesses several notable abilities. He is capable of powerful offensive magic, such as turning people to stone. He has a unique ability to detect dark, cursed objects that harbor black magic cards. His skills also extend to non-magical talents, most notably playing the piano, which he uses to help calm and care for children.
