TV-Series
Description
Flora Makihatayama, known in the original Japanese version as Hana Makihatayama, is a central character introduced in the second season of the series who becomes the focal point of the story's final arc in Ojamajo Doremi DOKKAAN!. She is born as a special witch baby from a sacred blue rose in the Witch World, an event that occurs once every one hundred years, marking her as a child of great destiny prophesied to one day become the Queen of the Witch World. Her birth date is March 25, 2000. The current queen entrusts the newborn to the apprentice witches Doremi, Aiko, Hazuki, and Onpu, making the group her adoptive mothers and caregivers, and she comes to live with them at the Maho-Dou magic shop.

In the fourth season, Flora rejects the idea of remaining in the Witch World's kindergarten for young witches, driven by a powerful longing to stay with her adoptive mothers. To achieve this, she uses her immense magical abilities to rapidly age her body, transforming herself from a toddler into a girl who appears roughly eleven years old, the same age as her caregivers. This act, born of love and a desire to be with her family, has severe consequences, as the strain of such powerful magic shatters her crystal ball, without which she cannot function as a proper witch or claim her right to the throne. The Queen, instead of punishing her, uses the situation to allow Flora to live in the human world for one year as an apprentice witch, where she can earn pieces of the Queen's own crystal by passing exams.

Flora has a complex and endearing personality that is central to her role in the story. As an infant and toddler, she is portrayed as having a strong temperament, being both cheerful and energetic but also prone to being fussy, capricious, and prone to crying, making her a challenging baby for the inexperienced apprentices to raise. When she ages herself for DOKKAAN!, her personality creates a distinct and often humorous contrast: she possesses the physical appearance of a pre-teenager but retains the mind, emotional immaturity, and lack of knowledge of a three-year-old. She cannot read, write, or behave perfectly in class, but she is described as being a very fast learner who quickly catches up with the help of her found family. She shares many traits with her primary mother, Doremi, including a tendency to be clumsy and a cheerful, outgoing nature. She loves eating pudding and her preferred magical instrument is the accordion.

Flora's primary motivation throughout the series is her deep, unwavering love for her adoptive mothers. In DOKKAAN!, this motivation is the sole driver of her actions, compelling her to grow up overnight simply so she can go to school with them and be part of their daily lives. Her place in the story is that of a beloved child whose safety and future are the main priority for the other main characters, but she is by no means passive. Her powerful and often unpredictable magic frequently creates problems that her mothers must solve, but it is also her unique power that ultimately resolves major conflicts. Despite her young age, she displays bravery and determination, especially when protecting or helping her family and friends.

The development of Flora across the series culminates in her role in DOKKAAN!. She evolves from a helpless infant who is the target of villains and ancient curses into a proactive agent in her own life, making the monumental decision to change her own age. She is a key student in the class alongside her mothers and forms a significant friendship with a magical elephant named Pao, with whom she bonds through music. Her arc throughout the final season deals with themes of growing up, responsibility, and ultimately, letting go, as she must confront the reality that she will one day return to the Witch World to fulfill her destiny as queen.

Regarding her notable abilities, Flora possesses magical power described as phenomenal and the strongest in the history of the Witch World, a power that has intimidated even the former queen. Even as an infant, her power was immense and difficult for her to control, often manifesting involuntarily. In DOKKAAN!, she loses her own crystal ball but her magical compact becomes uniquely special, containing the combined crystal balls of her five adoptive mothers (Doremi, Aiko, Hazuki, Onpu, and Momoko). While this makes her incredibly powerful, she requires her mothers to send her energy to use her magic effectively. Her later development as a student reveals a talent for playing the accordion.
