TV-Series
Description
Natsuko Shono is a young reporter for the publication Weekly Hero who becomes a prominent supporting character in Kinnikuman and its sequel series. She first appears in the early chapters of the manga and early episodes of the anime, where she quickly establishes herself as an extroverted and sociable individual who forms close bonds with the main cast. Natsuko frequently socializes with Kinnikuman, whom she affectionately calls Kin-chan, alongside his young assistant Meat, and she provides emotional support to both characters during their adventures. Her primary motivation stems from her career as a journalist, which allows her to document the world of Choujin wrestling, and later from her deep romantic attachment to the Justice Choujin Terryman. Natsuko is depicted as a bit of a tomboy, often dressed in bellbottoms and a tanktop in earlier stories and later in overalls and a sweater, and she is almost never seen without her trademark newsboy cap and camera. Her personality is marked by a strong possessive streak toward Terryman; she has been known to physically confront other female admirers who get too close to him, and in the anime her jealousy is played for comedic effect. Despite this, she is a loyal and energetic friend to the heroes, and her relationship with Terryman becomes more prominent as the series progresses, frequently showing them on dates and her becoming intensely involved in his matches. Over the course of the original story, Natsuko remains a constant presence in the anime even after her manga counterpart disappears following the 21st Choujin Olympics preliminaries. By the time of Kinnikuman Nisei, she has married Terryman and moved to America, where she becomes the mother of their son, Terry the Kid. Her role in the sequel includes appearing in flashbacks and participating in a tag tournament storyline set in the past. Natsuko does not possess any superhuman abilities; her contributions to the story are through her reporting, her close friendships with Kinnikuman and Meat, and her unwavering support for Terryman both as a romantic partner and as a source of cheer during his wrestling career.
