Description
Geronimo, whose full name is Geronimo Young McDaniel, is a character who begins his journey in Kinnikuman as a young human with an extraordinary dream. He is a Native American of the Cherokee tribe, hailing from Oklahoma in the United States. His most defining characteristic is his origin as a normal human being in a world of superhumans known as Chojin. From a young age, he admired these powerful beings, an admiration that was solidified when a Chojin, who would later be revealed as the God of the Superman Road, saved his life and the life of his younger sister Amy from a rolling boulder. This selfless act of heroism inspired Geronimo to dedicate his life to becoming a Chojin himself, despite being born without any of their inherent powers.
In terms of personality, Geronimo is characterized by his profound humility and an unwavering sense of justice. He is a young, optimistic, and expressive individual who deeply respects those he fights alongside, often referring to the other Justice Chojin as senpai, which means senior, and acknowledging himself as the most inexperienced among them. He is known for his strong will, incredible tenacity, and a willingness to sacrifice himself for the sake of his friends and the vulnerable. Although he is friendly and well-meaning, he can be quick to anger and resort to violence, particularly in his early days when he was still struggling to adjust to the harsh realities of being a Chojin impostor. His emotional nature is a hallmark of his character, and he is not afraid to show his feelings, whether it be joy, respect, or sorrow.
Geronimo's role in the story is that of the ultimate underdog whose spirit proves to be mightier than any physical power. He initially hides his true human nature to join the Justice Chojin in their battle against the Devil Knights. His most significant early achievement comes during the Five Story Ring battles within the body of the Chojin Warsman. There, he faces Sunshine, a powerful leader of the Devil Knights. Despite enduring immense damage that reveals his human frailty, Geronimo's fighting spirit does not waver. He discovers Sunshine's weakness to loud noises and uses his signature Apache War Cry to disintegrate his opponent and secure a tremendous victory. This triumph costs him his life, as his human body succumbs to its injuries, but his soul is given a chance to pass the trials of the Superman Road, after which he is reborn as a true Chojin, finally earning the power he had always dreamed of.
Key relationships are central to his development. His most important bond is with the American Chojin Terryman, who acts as his mentor and sees the potential within him from the very beginning. Terryman travels to Geronimo's village to help him, and they later form a tag team named the New Machineguns to compete in the Universal Chojin Tag Tournament. Another foundational relationship is with Chief Cheyenne, the leader of his tribe who raised Geronimo and his sister after their father died, teaching him about honor and goodness. He also shares a significant connection with the Chojin Wolfman, who entrusts Geronimo to cut his topknot in a ceremonial sacrifice for Kinnikuman.
Throughout the series, Geronimo undergoes a remarkable transformation. He evolves from a naive but determined human boy pretending to be a superhuman into a legitimate and respected Justice Chojin. His journey is not solely about gaining power; it is a continuous process of overcoming self-doubt. After becoming a true Chojin, he struggles with feelings of inadequacy and inexperience, which leads to tactical errors and further injuries. However, his indomitable spirit remains his greatest asset. In the later Survivor Match for the Kinniku Throne, he volunteers to take the place of an injured Warsman, facing a powerful opponent knowing he is outmatched. He is even temporarily erased from existence when his Muscle Prophecy page is burned, but his soul returns to help his comrade Kinnikuman achieve victory, only to be revived once more. In the sequel series Kinnikuman Nisei, he has matured into a trainer at the Hercules Factory, helping to guide the next generation of Chojin, which reflects his own growth from a student to a teacher.
Regarding his abilities, as a human, Geronimo's "power level" is effectively zero, which ironically made him immune to the power-draining effects that weakened other Chojin. He relied purely on his physical conditioning and willpower. Upon becoming a true Chojin, his power level is listed at 830,000. His most iconic technique is the Apache War Cry, a powerful shout that creates a devastating shockwave, with an even stronger version called the Apache Death Scream. He also utilizes physical strikes such as the Tomahawk Chop, a vigorous chopping attack, and the Tomahawk Tornado, which creates a whirlwind. Other moves include the Wood Cutter Hand, a powerful flying chop, and various tag-team techniques performed alongside partners like Terryman and Brocken Jr..
