Description
Neptuneman, whose true name is Kenkaman, also known as Quarrelman, is a Perfect Choujin from England. He originally debuted as a formidable villain in the comedic superhuman wrestling saga before undergoing a profound transformation. Before assuming the identity of Neptuneman, Kenkaman was an exceptionally powerful but wild wrestler who compiled a record of 541 wins with 541 knockouts and no defeats. Despite his strength, his brutal and unsportsmanlike fighting style earned him contempt from audiences, in stark contrast to the popular clean-fighting hero Robin Mask. During the qualifying rounds of the 20th Choujin Olympics in England, Kenkaman faced Robin Mask in the finals, but upon grappling with him, he felt disappointed by Robin's perceived lack of power and left the ring in forfeit. Plunged into despair, Kenkaman attempted suicide by jumping into the River Thames. At the bottom of the river, he discovered the ancient Perfect Choujin known as Neptune King, who had been waiting for a worthy successor. Neptune King bestowed upon him the Neptune Mask, transforming him into Neptuneman and granting him immense power, including the ability to harness the Earth's magnetic energy.
As Neptuneman, he became the leader of the Perfect Choujin faction. His personality was initially arrogant and elitist, viewing other Choujin as inferior and dismissing their masks as mere accessories. He and his partner Big the Budo (the disguised Neptune King) entered the Universal Tag-Team Tournament as the Hell Missionnaires, with the goal of stealing the masks of defeated opponents, a practice known as mask hunting. Neptuneman's motivations were rooted in a desire for ultimate, absolute strength and a belief in the superiority of Perfect Choujin. He showed no mercy in battle, using powerful moves such as the Quarrel Bomber (a lariat inspired by Hulk Hogan's axe bomber), the Quarrel Special, and the Double Leg Suplex. With his partner, he executed the devastating Cross Bomber combination. His left arm possessed the hardness of diamond, and he could project magnetic force from his body, even manipulating lightning.
Neptuneman's key relationships include his rivalry and later mutual respect with Robin Mask, who recognized Kenkaman's true identity during their tag match. His bond with Big the Budo soured when Neptune King resorted to using weapons, violating the Perfect Choujin code, causing Neptuneman to turn against his mentor. After losing to the Machine Guns (Kinnikuman and Terryman) in the tournament final, Neptuneman sacrificed himself by detonating explosives to signal the retreat of the Perfect Choujin army, declaring that the only perfect things in the world are the friendships of justice Choujin.
His role in the story later shifts from antagonist to ally. He was revived by kindred Perfect Choujin and went on to support Kinnikuman's team during the Scramble for the Kinniku Throne. Disguising himself as The Samurai, he fought alongside Robin Mask and Kinnikuman, ultimately sacrificing his own life again to save Kinnikuman from a lethal attack. Eventually, he was resurrected by Kinnikuman's Face Flash. In later arcs, he continues to appear as a wise and powerful ally, refining his abilities and even adopting a student, Seiuchin, to form the tag team Hell Expansions. His development from a contemptuous villain to a selfless hero who values camaraderie is a central part of his character arc.
